There is a lot of technology at work in today’s commercial and institutional buildings, from energy efficient boilers to complex HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning). Building systems require regular, skilled maintenance—mechanical and technical. That’s why building systems technicians are always in demand. It’s a job that requires good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Building Systems Technician is a one-year certificate program that consists of 3 semesters between September - June. You’ll receive comprehensive training in maintaining, operating and repairing electrical, ventilation, refrigeration and water treatment systems.

Most courses include practical activities to develop your troubleshooting skills. You’ll also get hands-on experience with a boiler during a work experience in your second term. It’s a great way to use what you’ve learned in class and labs in a real-world setting. It’s also a way to develop contacts for possible future employment.

This program provides knowledge and skill development related to the business office environment, with an emphasis on computer applications. Instruction is augmented by projects that will give you a hands-on understanding of the demands and rewards of work in an office setting.

You will receive practical and applied training in

• Leading software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations
• E-mail and computer-based scheduling/calendars
• Meetings participation and minute recording
• Operation of office equipment
• Office procedures such as reception, filing, mail and telephone communication
• Business accounting and the use of automated accounting software

The Continuing Care Assistant program provides knowledge and skill development in helping people to help themselves in their homes and special care facilities. You will receive training in: gerontology, dementia management strategies, applying the philosophy of long term care into home care, special care and community settings, promoting independence in a safe environment, working with people from all cultures, working with individuals with different levels of physical and cognitive impairment, giving personal care, and attending to psychosocial needs.

If you’re interested in studying agriculture, but you only want to commit to a year, then our General Agriculture Certificate program, offered through a brand new partnership with Lakeland College is for you! 

Our certificate program offers a specific concentration on crop production.  The courses offered will allow you to master fundamental skills that are essential for modern agricultural operations, including computer training, keeping accurate business records, and using up-to-date and innovative technology.  Skills specific to crop production will involve you in practical field skills used to identify plants and weeds and assess a variety of pest problems. 

Upon completion of your certificate program, you will also be given the option to transfer into year two of Lakeland’s Crop Technology Diploma program, offered on its Vermilion campus.  The diploma program will allow you to gain knowledge and skills through agronomy, production, precision farming, and financial management classes while being immersed in a hands-on experience through industry practicum or Lakeland’s student-managed farm.

Whether you choose the acquisition of your certificate as your exit point, or choose to continue on to the diploma program, you will find yourself prepared to contribute to a farming operation or to work in the retail agriculture sector
