GRE at Home Edition

The GRE at Home is a secure and practical alternative for applicants who want to take the test in the comfort of their own homes. Due to local lockdowns and concerns for student safety, GRE test centres all over India have either temporarily closed or reduced their services. Candidates can take the GRE test without leaving their homes in a secure manner by taking the GRE at home. Iran is the only location where the GRE at Home test is not currently available.

The only difference between taking the GRE exam at home and taking it at a testing facility is the test location. Candidates who want to take the GRE test at home must have a computer at home or in a secure place with the system requirements listed on our website. THE GRE at Home is administered in the comfort of your own home.

How to Check GRE Test Center Availability?

To check the availability of GRE test centers, you can visit the official GRE website and search for test centers in your preferred location. You can also check the availability of the GRE General Test at home, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with appointments available as early as 24 hours after registration. Another way to check availability is to contact the test center directly or call the GRE customer service number for more information. It is recommended to schedule your test well in advance to secure your preferred testing date and location.

Registration for GRE Test Centers in India

Check out the step-by-step registration for the GRE exam across GRE centres in India.

  • Candidates must register or sign in to their ETS Account on the official GRE website.
  • Following that, candidates would need to choose the most convenient GRE test date and GRE test centre for them.
  • The $228 GRE exam fee would then need to be paid by candidates in order to reserve a GRE exam time.

GRE Exam Center Rules & Regulations

When attending the GRE Test Center, there are a few important things that applicants have to be aware of. These guidelines have been taken from an extensive list of guidelines for behavior. Those wishing for more information should consult the official website for the full set of GRE Test Center regulations.

  • Candidates would need to carry a recognized form of identification with them.
  • A confidentiality and rules agreement would need to be signed by candidates.
  • Candidates could be required to enter their information into a log kept by the GRE test centre.
  • Candidates would be given scratch paper to use throughout the entire test; however, it would need to be returned at the conclusion of the GRE.
  • The third section of the GRE General Test would be followed by a ten-minute optional break for the candidate.
  • An onscreen calculator would be presented to the student during the Quantitative Reasoning segment only. Personal calculators are not permitted inside the testing centre for the GRE.
  • During the GRE exam, candidates are asked to raise their hands if they have any questions.
  • Depending on how well they fared on the test, candidates would have the option to publish their scores or cancel them at the end of the GRE General Test.
  • Candidates will have access to their unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning results. However, due to the scoring procedure, analytical writing scores won't be available.
  • Candidates can choose up to four people to receive their GRE results. Candidates who wish to distribute their GRE results to other recipients must do so using their ETS GRE account.

Can I Change my GRE Test Center?

To shift your GRE General test center, you need to adhere to the following steps:

  • Log into your ETS account.
  • Under the Upcoming Tests tab, pick the date you intend to reschedule.
  • On the right-hand side panel, click Reschedule Appointment.
  • You can easily switch the date or location of your GRE Subject Test or GRE General Test.
  • However, it is not feasible to transform a GRE Subject Test into the General Test or vice versa.
  • If you want to reschedule your GRE test from home, you need to select the appointment.
  • Choose the two-month period when you wish to take the GRE test.
  • Affirm the time zone where you live or select a new one.
  • Afterward, select the available test date from the calendar.
  • Then, select the available time before selecting Register for this Test.
  • If you are rescheduling your test for a testing center, pick the appointment. Enter the desired testing place. Before you press Continue, select the time frame of two months when you would like to take the exam. From the calendar that appears, you may pick any date that has available spaces.
  • Decide your location and press Show Test Times for that particular spot.
  • Once you find the perfect time for you, click on Register.

What to Bring on GRE Test Day?

When you go to take your GRE Subject Test, you should bring a few essential items:

  • Copy of the confirmation email that specifies the test, date, center, and who will receive your scores.
  • Three or four sharpened No. 2 or HB pencils and an eraser that erases well, and

If you have medical needs that necessitate bringing equipment, snacks, or drinks into the testing space or require extended or extra breaks, you should request accommodations before registering.

Disability Accommodation at GRE Exam

ETS has made a promise to serve individuals with disabilities or medical issues by offering services and reasonable modifications that fit the purpose of the test. Those who meet ETS's standards are able to receive testing accommodations. To learn more about the process for requesting accommodation and the resources available, please explore further.

  • All tests are limited in terms of duration, with 25% extra time, 50% additional time, and double the time, which requires documentation. Additionally, there are certain breaks that are not included in the testing time, which can be used for taking medication, snacks, or going to the restroom.
  • Students are allowed to use ergonomic keyboards, Intellikey's® keyboards, JAWS with or without a refreshable braille device, keyboards with a touchpad, screen magnification, selectable background and foreground colors, and trackball.
  • For additional help, there are options such as a human reader, human scribe, help with spoken directions only, oral interpreter, sign language interpreter, assistance for note taking with a braille slate and stylus, or Perkins brailler.
  • Lastly, different formats of the test can be provided, such as braille, large-print test book, recorded audio, recorded audio with tactile figure supplement, or recorded audio with large-print figure supplement.

How to submit your request?

There are two methods to submit an application for accommodations.

  • The first is to sign in to your ETS account and select the "GRE Accommodation Status/New Request" under the "Test Takers with Disabilities or Health-Related Needs" section. Follow the steps provided and make sure to complete all of the forms and provide the required documentation.
  • Alternatively, you may also email, mail, or send your request by courier.
