I remember my first Diwali in Canada. It was a great experience and the best part was we got to enjoy the festival with students from different countries.
Karan Batra
I used to study in Toronto and every year there was a Diwali mela which I used to attend with my friends.

Since Canada is considered mini India, Diwali is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. You will find decorations on streets and in public transports. Indian stores and restaurants are filled with Indian sweets. People invite friends and family to celebrate the festival.

campus yet I made many friends while studying at my college. You get a lot of time to interact with other students during classes, group assignments, cultural & sports events, and even trips. So relax, you'll be able to make friends without living there.

It was a lovely experience for me. Though at first I was a little skeptical of the idea of homestay but I actually ended up creating a great bond with the family. We even used to go on trips and shopping on weekends.

It is a great opportunity to learn the local language and culture in the best way possible. These are really safe as well.

Is this option provided by the college or do I have to find out about the places by myself?

I live in a separate apartment and I feel there is more freedom in living this way.You don’t have to stick to the homestay rules, cook what you want and manage the apartment your way.
Subrata Patra
I lived in a homestay and I found it better than living alone. Living with a host family gives you homely comfort and care that you need in a new environment. I found it more affordable and safe compared to other options. But if you are looking for more freedom than homestay probably wouldn’t be the best option.

It’s basically your decision in the end as both the housing options have their own pros and cons. So, I would suggest you consult your friends and relatives who are living here already and then decide.

There are many options to choose from but majority of students opt for shared apartment as it is a more affordable option.
Abhimanyu Arora
I agree with Reet. Shared apartments are mostly preferred by international students because they get to stay with other students who are often from the same country or with their friends. You get the freedom of living the way you want.

A lot of students also opt for University hall of residence or homestay. It’s up to you which one you choose.
Damanjeet Kaur
Thanks all! Is the cost of living at university hall of residence or homestay similar to the rent of shared apartments?
