What is the next procedure after biometrics for a Student Canada visa?

As you submit your visa application online, you are obligated to attend a biometric appointment at a visa application center in your country of residence to complete the application process. What happens after that?

Once the Canada visa authority receives your biometrics, your credentials will be stored in a secure facility in a Government of Canada database. Then the IRCC will process your Canada Study Visa application.

Most of the Student Direct Stream applications are processed within 20 days after receiving the biometrics, provided they fulfill the other eligibility conditions.

If your application doesn’t meet the eligibility for the Student Direct Stream, it will be reviewed for a regular study permit. If this happens, the processing time can take longer.

Tips to follow when giving biometrics
  • Make sure your whole face is clearly visible when your photograph is taken.
  • Make sure there are no cuts or injuries on your fingers or henna on your hands at the time of giving fingerprints.
  • Avoid light clothing
