The college began as Vermilion Farm in 1911 and was finally renamed Lakeland College after many years. It is a government-funded institution with campuses in Vermilion and Lloydminster.
Lakeland College is Canada's first inter-provincial college, serving inhabitants from both Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is also a member of College and Institutes Canada (CICAN), and the Alberta Rural Development Network. Students come to Lakeland College from more than 20 countries in recent years. Lakeland is also active in projects and relationships with other post-secondary educational establishments in Canada and worldwide as part of its mandate.

Students can learn outside the classroom at the college farm, the Emergency Training Centre's training grounds, and the environmental science program's outdoor laboratory.
Lakeland College has two libraries on campus, one in Vermillion and the other in Lloydminster. Every library also has a book collection, a Circulation/Service desk where patrons can sign out books and ask research questions, individual and group study places, and a computer lab.
The Colonel Cormack Recreation Centre on the Vermilion campus is busy seven days a week, featuring amenities such as a gym, a health club, a poolside with a hot tub, and squash and racquetball courts.
Lloydminster students have access to a weight room and a gymnasium. Next to Lakeland College's Lloydminster campus lies the Bud Miller All Seasons Park. Lakeland's student-athletes are known as Rustlers.

The dorms in Lloydminster are just a short walk from the main campus. And Bud Miller Park is only a short distance away. Lloydminster Residence Village has two types of units: Spinwheel for single students and Townhouses for families.
Vermilion's housing village is within walking distance of classes, the cafe, the bookstore, Spurs, and everything else. Classes, the cafeteria, the bookstore, Spurs, and everything else are all within walking distance of Vermilion's housing village.
Vermillion houses have double rooms, and family houses with bungalows are located near Lakeland's leisure facility. There is a communal TV, kitchen, and free laundry in each building.

Ecosystems and biodiversity are at the heart of conservation and restoration ecology (CARE).
The acronym fits. As a CARE graduate you’ll be making a difference for plants, soils, water and wildlife. Not just for now, but for future generations.
How you’ll do it is by learning practical field skills. Enough skills you'll be able to work in the field between 1st and 2nd year.
