Auckland
AUT is the second-largest university in Aotearoa New Zealand. We have been a university since 2000, but a place of learning for 120 years and operate in accordance with the Education Act (1989). AUT is a contemporary New Zealand university, led by a strategic team and governed by a council. The Vice-Chancellor is the head of the University and is supported by the Strategic Leadership Team. The AUT Council is the governing body of the University and is made up of lay members, academic and professional staff, at least one student, and members appointed by the government.
South Campus
Our City Campus is in the heart of Auckland. It is AUT’s biggest campus and home to most academic units and the central administration, including the Vice-Chancellor’s office. The City Campus is a 15-minute walk from Britomart train station and the ferry terminal. AUT shuttle buses run between the South and City campuses, and public buses stop nearby.
Living in student accommodation is a comfortable and convenient option whether you're a first-year or postgraduate student, new to Auckland, or living away from home for the first time. AUT’s student accommodation is modern and secure, offering a social community just a few minutes' walk away from our City or North Campus.
If you're currently enrolled as a student at AUT, you have access to a variety of services and facilities that can help you thrive in your academic and personal life. AUT prides itself on offering some of the country's most extensive student services and support. You can find a Student Hub at each of the three campuses, providing you with support when you need it.
Additionally, medical professionals staff the medical centers for students who require medical assistance. You can also find an AUT gym on each of the three campuses and a newly built multi-purpose recreation center at the City Campus, where you can enjoy sports, leisure, meetings, and social activities in different spaces.

Bachelor of Health Science in Counselling
If you become a counsellor you help people deal with their feelings, better understand themselves, make decisions and create change in their lives. The Counselling major prepares you to work with a diverse client base as a counsellor.
You become familiar with the history and theory of counselling, and the relational counselling model. AUT's counselling degree includes 200 hours of counselling practice, bicultural learning, marae visits and knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi issues. This degree is suitable for adult students and those with appropriate life experience.
AUT counselling graduates are eligible to apply for provisional membership of New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) to begin practising as a counsellor.

Bachelor of Health Science in Paramedicine
Paramedicine is New Zealand’s most trusted profession, helping the community in times of need. Study the Paramedicine major in the Bachelor of Health Science degree to prepare for this rewarding career.
Paramedics are the backbone of emergency ambulance services run by St John and Wellington Free Ambulance, as well as helicopter rescue services. Paramedics often work independently in remote or difficult environments and have to make critical, often complex decisions. The Paramedicine major prepares you for these challenges.
You learn from staff who are intensive care paramedics, emergency nurses, defence force medics, midwives, medical specialists and emergency management specialists. There’s a focus on practical experience with clinical placements in ambulance services, hospitals, mental health institutions, ski fields, and community or primary health centres.
