Palmerston North
An educational institution with a history dating back to 1892, UCOL Limited has a proud and well-earned reputation for supporting our community’s learning. This connection with community is crucial to what we do, and it ensures that our programmes help students develop in-demand skills. Many of our lecturers are practitioners as well as teachers, and our partnerships with industry mean that the majority of our students get hands-on work experience.
As a modern Institute of Technology and Polytechnic, UCOL’s specialties include Applied Engineering and Trades, Health and Sciences, and Humanities and Business. Our environments have been designed to enhance student learning, supported by a relationship-based teaching approach. By studying with us, students learn valuable life skills and can make a difference.
It is really important to make your accommodation arrangements for your first days in New Zealand before you leave your home country. UCOL offers a variety of accommodation options to suit your needs and we can help you make the best choice for your situation. Whatever campus you're studying at, UCOL can provide advice on nearby, affordable accommodation options.
Homestays
Homestay accommodation is where you live with a New Zealand family. You are provided with your own fully furnished room and three meals a day. Living in a homestay is ideal for international students. It will allow you to concentrate on your studies, learn about New Zealand culture, practice English, and get used to life in New Zealand with the support of a friendly and caring family.
Shared accommodation - flatting
Students also have the option to go flatting – i.e. renting a house or an apartment with friends. If you choose this type of shared accommodation, we recommend staying for the first four weeks in short term accommodation, as it can take some time to find a suitable place. When flatting, you are responsible for providing your own furniture, paying your share of power/water/phone bills, cooking your own meals, doing your own laundry, and following the rental agreement.
UCOL specializes in Applied Engineering and Trades, Health and Sciences, and Humanities and Business as a contemporary Institute of Technology and Polytechnic. Its surroundings were created to foster a relationship-based teaching style and improve student learning. Students who study with UCOL gain helpful life skills and have the potential to change the world.
