National Defense College

The aim of the National Defense College is to enhance the critical and strategic thinking abilities of students and enable them to apply practical knowledge in complex situations with diverse partners. Students are taught to analyze how various factors such as domestic, national, transnational, and international elements shape strategy. The college also emphasizes on understanding the relationship between political objectives, strategy, and the use of various instruments of national power, such as diplomatic, military, economic, and information-related tools, including cyber resources. Students are trained to develop effective strategies and crisis-management responses while examining how strategic leaders shape and implement policy and strategy.

The creation of a National Defense College in the UAE has long been a goal of the Armed Forces' General Command and is a top priority for the wise leadership, particularly His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. This interest is rooted in the commitment and dedication of His Highness to maintain the armed forces' high international standing and to continually enhance national strategic and military skills to keep up with the demands of the 21st century. Pursuant to Federal Decree-Law No. (1)]] issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the college was established in Abu Dhabi and is under the General Command of the Armed Forces. The inaugural national defense course commenced in August 2013. The location of the college allows for convenient access from all directions, whether coming from within or outside of Abu Dhabi. 

The academic program offered are international context, comparative local context, strategy and comparative defense strategies, strategic leadership, instruments of state power: economics, tools of state power: diplomacy, tools of state power: military, tools of state power: information and information security issues, national decision making , national security, contemporary issues, graduation project, field strategy, elective courses, etc

National Defense College offers various scholarship to its students. The ADNOC Scholarship Program offers various benefits to successful applicants, including scholarship application assistance, tuition fee support, support with living expenses, access to the ADNOC Scholarship Portal, and rewards for excellent performance. Prospective scholars should have already received a conditional letter of acceptance from the list of approved universities for majors such as Energy and Sustainability, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geoscience, Polymer Science, and more.
