The International Study Centre at Lancaster University
The International Study Centre is based on Lancaster University’s safe and modern campus. Here, we’ll help you prepare for your degree, adapt to life in the UK, and plan for your future career. With our support, you’ll become part of Lancaster’s close community, and you can focus on achieving your goals. Our programmes are provided by Study Group in collaboration with Lancaster University.

Life at the International Study Centre
From the day you arrive, you will be part of Lancaster’s welcoming community. Our friendly staff will help you settle in to Lancaster and adjust to life in the UK. We organise exciting activities, and provide personal, academic and everyday support.
You will live in a college with other first year students, and you’ll have access to all university facilities – these include our excellent library, £20 million sports centre and more than 200 student clubs.

Studying at the International Study Centre
An International Foundation Year or Pre-Masters Programme at our International Study Centre prepares you for your degree at Lancaster University. You will focus on English language, university-level study skills, and academic modules that relate to your degree subject.

Our English Language Preparation programme is also available if you do not meet the language requirements to study the International Foundation Year.

Supporting your progression to the University
At the International Study Centre, we take every measure to ensure you are supported in your academic journey. Our programmes allow for increased time spent learning, researching and developing your skills. By studying with us, you will benefit from:

• Formal assessments at the end of each term.
• An improved English language module, Academic English Skills, providing greater opportunity for informal assessments and feedback.
• Combining and reducing the number of module assessments allowing more time to prepare.
• A personal tutorial system with a focus on your academic progress at key points of the academic year, creating action plans based on your performance and progession options.

About Lancaster University
Lancaster University is a collegiate public research university in Lancaster, Lancashire, England. The university was established by royal charter in 1964, one of several new universities created in the 1960s

The university was initially based in St Leonard's Gate in the city centre, before starting a move in 1967 to a purpose-built 300 acres (120 ha) campus at Bailrigg, 4 km (2.5 mi) to the southThe campus buildings are arranged around a central walkway known as the Spine, which is connected to a central plaza, named Alexandra Square in honour of its first chancellor, Princess Alexandra.

Lancaster is a residential collegiate university; the colleges are weakly autonomous. The eight undergraduate colleges are named after places in the historic county of Lancashire, and each have their own campus residence blocks, common rooms, administration staff, and bars.

Lancaster is ranked in the top ten in all three national league tables, and received a Gold rating in the Government's inaugural (2017) Teaching Excellence Framework.

You can choose to live in student accommodation or arrange your own private accommodation. Living on campus alongside other students is the ideal way to make the most of your student experience.
Lancaster University is one of only a few UK universities to operate a collegiate system. This means you live, socialise and graduate with members of your college.
Studying at a large, internationally focused university, you still get to feel part of a smaller close-knit community. You will meet and mix with people from different courses , and share interests outside of your studies. There are many activities to enjoy on campus.

Be part of a student community:
The eight colleges are one of the most distinctive and valued features of Lancaster University. Each one is an individual community. It has its own identity, administration, student executive, social scene and facilities.
On-campus accommodation is offered on a self-catering basis to International Study Centre students. It is located within the colleges, so your choice of accommodation will depend on the college you are allocated to. If you live off campus you will still join a college. You can be as involved in college activities as you like.
Each college has its own Residence Officer. This means you will have a friendly face to approach with any queries or issues you may have.

How much will my accommodation cost?

Tenancies in most University accommodation last between 36 to 44 weeks. Tenancies in the townhouses last for 43 weeks.
