About University of Strathclyde

Founded in 1948, the University of Strathclyde Business School (SBS) is a pioneering, internationally renowned academic organisation that shapes and develops the business minds of tomorrow.

Strathclyde Business School is one of four faculties forming the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. The University was established in 1796 as 'the place of useful learning' and this remains at the forefront of our vision today for Strathclyde to be a leading international technological university that makes a positive difference to the lives of its students, to society and to the world.
SBS has established international centres in Greece, Switzerland, UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Singapore and Malaysia. With around 150 academic staff and more than 3000 full-time and part-time students (undergraduate and postgraduate), Strathclyde Business School’s subject departments and specialist units collaborate to provide a dynamic, fully-rounded and varied programme of specialist and cross-disciplinary courses.

We are a triple-accredited business school: the first business school in Scotland to hold this accolade, and one of only 88 in the world (July 2018, MBA Today), to be triple-accredited, holding accreditation from the international bodies, AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS. We have held all three accreditations since 2004. Our departments and programmes also hold internationally recognised industry accreditations:

  • Department of Work, Employment & Organisation is a CIPD approved centre
  • Department of Accounting and Finance accredited by CIMA and ICAS
  • Our Hospitality & Tourism degrees are accredited by the Institute of Hospitality

More recently, we were awarded the Small Business Charter Gold Award – joining an elite group of institutions at the forefront of entrepreneurship in the UK. SBS is now one of only five universities in the UK to have the Gold Award, recognising its world-leading support for scaling Scottish firms through innovation, internationalisation and leadership.

In addition to our international accreditation, Strathclyde has a reputation for research excellence. Based on the REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2014 GPA scores, the Times Higher Education ranked us first in Scotland and in the top 10 business schools in the UK for its research. Times Higher Education also ranked us 3rd in the UK for Impact of our business research, based on the REF’s GPA scores, a measure of how the research impacts on practise in business.

We have firm roots in the business community in and around our home city of Glasgow which extends not only nationally but internationally. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach to working alongside industry building mutually beneficial relationships which add value to both organisations and individuals alike.

We are in the UK’s top 20 universities for research intensity according to the Times Higher Education’s analysis of REF2014. Strathclyde has a triple-accredited Business school (AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS) and one of the largest and best equipped Engineering faculties in Scotland. In autumn 2018 Strathclyde will open a new £31m sports facility and is starting work on a £60m Learning and

University of Strathclyde Accomodation

You've already made a great choice in choosing to come and study at Strathclyde, but you're making the right choice by coming to stay with us too!

We provide secure accommodation for eligible students and have a dedicated Accommodation Services team to help you all year round. You'll find them in the Campus Village so if there's anything you need just pop in and ask.

Private Accommodation
Glasgow is a large city and there is lots of accommodation available. The city centre location of the University of Strathclyde makes it easy to travel to/from any part of the city.

Traditional private accommodation

The Advice Hub at the StrathUnion has lots of advice on their housing pages to help you find the right place and know what to do if anything doesn’t go to plan. Staff there are always on hand to help.

The Advice Hub House Hunting Starter Guide

If possible, you should try and spend some time in Glasgow during the summer vacation to familiarise yourself with the city outwith the campus and have a look at several properties before making a decision. If you can't do this, remember to bring enough money to pay for temporary accommodation for when you first arrive in Glasgow, while you look for somewhere to stay. Do not pay money to a landlord via the internet unless you have checked the person is registered as landlord of the property.

Students with families

We don't have any University accommodation that's suitable for families or couples but if you're coming to study with us and you're bringing with you your family or spouse/partner, The Advice Hub can help you find accommodation for the duration of your studies.

Privately run student accommodation
There are a number of privately run Purpose Built Student Accommodation residences in the city centre which provide en-suite rooms within a cluster flat and/or studio accommodation.

Some things to consider:

  • The length of contract you require;
  • The cost of the full length of the contract, not just the price per week;
  • What happens if you were to withdraw from your course, are you still liable for the rent until the end of the contract period;
  • The mix of students in residence and in your flat: students from other Universities/Colleges in Glasgow; Undergraduate/Postgraduate/college students;
