Cal State Monterey Bay provides over 7,216 students an extraordinary opportunity to learn on a residential campus just one mile from the shores of the beautiful Monterey Bay. Our diverse student body receives personal attention in small classes while pursuing degrees in 25 undergraduate and seven graduate majors.
Founded in 1994 on the former site of Fort Ord by educators and community leaders, Cal State Monterey Bay faculty and staff build on that legacy as we explore innovative ways to meet the needs of a new generation of students while simultaneously powering the Monterey County economy.
While we serve students from the entire state of California, 38 percent of our undergraduates come from Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. We pride ourselves on making higher education accessible to traditionally underserved and low-income populations. Seventy-two percent of our students receive some form of financial aid. Fifty-three percent of our students are among the first generation of their family to go to college. And with 52 percent of our students living on campus, we are one of the most residential universities in the CSU.
CSU International Programs Scholarship Opportunities are available through the California State University International Programs office, and come in a variety of forms.
CSUIP Scholarships: Made possible through the generosity of former CSUIP participants. Scholarships of $500 are available to students accepted into any of the IP programs. The scholarship is awarded based on scholastic merit and financial need.
International F-1 degree-seeking students may be eligible for the International Student Non-Resident Fee Waiver. The primary purpose of the waiver is to recognize international students who display exceptional scholastic achievements and dedication. Recipients of this award receive a full waiver of the non-resident fee portion of their tuition, between $7,900 and $14,250 depending on the number of units taken. These awards are competitive and a small percentage of applicants will receive the scholarships. Students must reapply every year to be considered for the International Student Non-Resident Fee Waiver again.
Live on campus
International students who will live on campus are scheduled to move into the residence halls earlier than other student groups. This allows for attendance at special events, including International Student/NSE Orientation, and provides extra time to adjust to campus.
Residence Halls
Cal State Monterey Bay freshmen live in the Residence Halls located adjacent to the main area of the campus. These three-story Residence Halls surround the main part of campus. They are within walking distance of classrooms, the library, the Dining Commons, computer facilities, the Media Learning Complex, the Campus Health Center, the Otter Sports Center, and all administrative offices. Meal plan required.
Off-Campus Housing
Students have numerous options of finding an accommodation off-campus in nearby areas. Students can have access to studio apartments, paying guest facilities, sharing apartment complexes and many more.
The university provides world-class infrastructure to students. The library is open 24/7 and is filled with thousands of books and printed articles. The study halls are outfitted with the latest technological advances. The school boasts a cafeteria and a gym open to all students. The university is in an ideal location for all students, with a variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment close by.
Another most distinguishing feature of the university is its faculty which is highly qualified and experienced. The faculty includes some Fulbright scholars and most of them have won prestigious awards, traveled the world and done ground-breaking research. In the beginning, the First-Year Seminar faculty help students launch their college careers. They prepare students to succeed by providing personal attention and mentoring. Throughout their education, students get hands-on experience along with theory.
The placement cell of the college provides great support to students after they complete their degrees. Placement officers provide students with internship opportunities, which are a great way to get noticed by potential employers and gain some real-time work experience. The placement office in college is a resource for students during their entire time at the college.

I am so happy that my college provides students with financial aid. I was paying my tuition fee as a cashier at a supermarket but I was still struggling to pay for my tuition. Thankfully, I was awarded a scholarship and I could later on focus all my time on my studies.
