San Bernardino
California State University, San Bernardino is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California. Opened in 1965 and set at the foothills of the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, the university serves more than 20,000 students each year and graduates about 4,000 students annually.
The "value added" by a CSUSB education ranks in the top 4 percent in the nation, according to the Collegiate Learning Assessment, a sequence of tests used by hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide that measure student learning in the freshman and then in the senior year. First-to-second year retention rates are third highest among all CSU campuses.
CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire, and it has the second highest African American and Hispanic enrollments of all public universities in California. Seventy percent of those who graduate are the first in their families to do so.
The university offers more than 70 traditional baccalaureate and master's degree programs, education credential and certificate programs, and a doctoral program. In recent years, CSUSB added its first doctorate (educational leadership), engineering program (computer science and engineering) and M.F.A. programs in creative writing and studio art/design. Every CSUSB academic program that is eligible has earned national accreditation. The university also is home to the California Professor of the Year (Stuart Sumida).
On-Campus Housing
Living On Campus is one of the most unique experiences you will experience as a college student. Unlike off-campus living, living on the CSUSB campus provides students with a unique living environment where all of your neighbors are students just like you. The Department of Housing and Residential Education can put you in touch with campus activities, faculty and so much more!
Living off campus
Living off campus can also be very appealing to the various populations of commuter students. Living close to school allows students to “take a break” from school by not always being on campus. Additionally, it helps students learn valuable life lessons that come with living on your own. Below are a few resources that can help you find housing locally.
The California State University, San Bernardino campus combines modern facilities with vast swaths of well-kept landscapes and panoramic views. And apart from classrooms and laboratories, the university has simulation labs, a modern instructional television studio lab, an electronic music studio, glass blowing facilities, a Geographic Information Systems Lab, a crime analysis lab, a Museum, an Infant Teaching Lab, the Arrowhead Lab for Security Analysis, Math and Science Teaching Methods Labs, and state-of-the-art technology.
Students can also participate in a variety of sports, fitness, and wellness activities at the institution to improve their physical fitness, learn new talents, and compete in friendly sports. Its Student Engagement office promotes an inclusive student life environment by providing social and co-curricular programs that encourage student involvement and cultivate a sense of belonging at California State University, San Bernardino. Wall climbing, sports groups, Intramurals, outdoor excursions, an art and music festival, and theatre and performing arts are among the activities provided to students.
Some of the notable alumni are Ahmed Sultan Bin Sulayem (Executive Chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre), Wilmer Carter (Member of the California State Assembly), Pedro Nava (Member of the California State Assembly), Sandra Finan (Commanding officer), Robert Eatinger (Counsel), Sharon Jordan (American actress).
