University of Bridgeport
Founded in 1927, the University of Bridgeport (UB) is a private university home to a diverse student and faculty body from over 45 states and 80 countries. UB offers more than 100 programs through the College of Engineering, Business and Education, College of Arts & Sciences and College of Health Sciences. UB’s English Language Institute (ELI) is located on campus and ELI students have access to all university resources and benefits.
Located in the state of Connecticut and just 48 miles northeast of New York City, UB students have access to job opportunities including internships with some of the world’s leading corporations, hospitals, and organizations.
On-campus housing is available for graduate students, and all full-time students are permitted to ride the city bus system for free. UB has the largest graduate engineering program in Connecticut and the second-largest graduate engineering school in New England.
Living on campus
Living on campus is an important part of the overall experience and development of students at the university. Our residence halls are not just places for students to sleep, but are vibrant communities where students are ENGAGED as active members of the campus, EDUCATED on topics directly related to their success and EMPOWERED with the critical thinking skills that will help in their transformation into a responsible and active member of a global community.
Off-Campus Housing
At the University of Bridgeport, all full-time matriculating students with fewer than 90 credits who live more than 30 miles from campus and are under 21 years of age are required to live on campus. However, some graduate and upper class students choose to live off campus in the surrounding community.
Our goal is to assist you in making decisions about living off campus and to enable you to develop a housing search strategy. We have provided information on how to find housing options that best meet your needs, your rights as a tenant and where to get help if you have any questions. There are several ways to find rental housing in the Bridgeport and surrounding communities.
Student participation and leadership in extracurricular activities are encouraged and rewarded at UB. The Office of Campus Activities and Civic Engagement helps students with their programming, provides training and leadership development, and organizes local volunteer and community service opportunities.
The leisure and sports activities are designed to promote well-being among students, teachers, staff, and other members of the UB community. At UB, recreational and leisure activities emphasize the integration of mind and body through positive traditional and non-traditional recreation and sports.
All student clubs and organizations receive mentorship and development from the university. The Office-approved events and activities are intended to motivate, challenge, introduce, and generate educational opportunities both within and beyond the classroom.
Many of the standard services, such as career advising, are provided through the University of Bridgeport Career Development. The programs are designed to help students assess themselves, study career possibilities, learn appropriate work skills, and apply effective tools as they transition from fruitful academic interests to fulfilling employment.

Associate of Science in General Studies
Three degree programs are offered through the UB General Studies program: Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS.) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in General Studies. These degrees offer maximum flexibility to explore curricula of the different undergraduate programs at the University.
In the BS in General Studies program, students work with an academic advisor to design an academic program tailored to their specific needs and goals. For example, one might combine a Business Studies concentration that focuses on Marketing and Management with a minor in Mass Communications, or combine a Social Sciences concentration that focuses on Psychology and Sociology with a Human Services minor. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics concentration is frequently used to fulfill the science prerequisites for graduate study in the health professions, leaving a student room to explore the undergraduate curriculum in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Human Services.
The B.S. in General Studies is an excellent option for transfer students since it allows the maximum number of free electives permitted by the university. Program graduates have attended business, law, and medical school. Many have gone on to careers in education, human services, and community service.
