Golden Globe University offers extensive advising services, from the time of application through the time of graduation and beyond. It's possible to connect with a lively GGU community as a student, and the Student Government Association (SGA) promotes the diverse interests of GGU students. In addition to serving as a connection between students and school management, it also serves to integrate the GGU student population and to reflect students' perspectives and interests in all circumstances, as described in the mission statement. Grainger's Student Academic and Cultural Clubs are an important part of the GGU Community experience, and they help the school achieve its purpose of preparing students to lead and serve in an ethical and diverse environment. Several activities, such as conferences, seminars, and guest lecturers are sponsored by student organisations, and each event offers a unique opportunity for learning, networking, and socialising outside of the classroom. The GGU community is united by a single thread: the dedication and commitment required to attend courses while still working full-time. Aside from that, the Golden Gate University Bookstore offers a broad variety of student supplies and is a place where one may display their school enthusiasm by wearing GGU branded shirts and other goods.

This degree program provides students with the academic and clinical training required to practice relationally informed clinical work and to prepare alumni for employment in a variety of mental health settings, including community mental health agencies, hospitals, schools, and private practice. Our students learn to practice from a stance of cultural humility and to maintain ethical and best practice standards.

Golden Gate University offers a license-eligible Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. The program maintains a strategic partnership with the Psychotherapy Action Network, an organization that aims to organize, formulate initiatives, and collectively advocate for mental health policy that is based on the complexity of the individual and not simply on the identification of discrete symptoms. This is consistent with our program philosophy, which envisions psychotherapy as a complex process of individual growth and change and the therapeutic relationship as a key element in successful treatment.

Traineeship is an integral part of our program, providing an opportunity for students to apply the skills learned in class to the clinical encounter. Students are required to complete 300 face-to-face clinical hours under clinical supervision and to concurrently attend our practicum seminar over the course of at least three trimesters.

Our curriculum meets the MFT licensure requirements as set forth by section 4980.36 of the California Business and Professions (Cal. B&P) code. The program satisfies all the educational requirements set by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners and provides some hours of supervised experience fulfilling part of the practical experience requirements. Our curriculum also meets the educational requirements for Licensed Professional Clinical counselor (LPCC) licensure as required by section 4999.33 of the California Business and Professions (Cal. B&P) code. The curriculum also meets the educational requirements for MFT and/or LPCC licensure in some other states. If you intend to pursue licensure outside the state of California or are completing the program, including the traineeship, outside the state of California, speak with a faculty member in the Department of Psychology to discuss the licensure requirements in your state of interest prior to beginning the program.

Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology will possess the skills and knowledge to:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive and integrative knowledge of the field of counseling psychology relevant to mental health professionals, including human development, psychopathology, and group, family, couple, and individual dynamics.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ethical and best practice standards that exist for professionals in their field.
  • Demonstrate the capacity and willingness to practice psychotherapy from a stance of cultural humility.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to practice individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy from a relational and systemic lens.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of research designs and parameters of psychological research, particularly within the field of counseling psychology, and the capacity to critically assess psychological research.

astounding!

I would say my experience at Golden Gate University was very good. When you are a freshman, you are required to live in campus and so the university provides you with on campus housing. The rooms are not very big, but they are good enough. The university provides you with free internet with the help of the on campus wifi. There are many things to do in the city such as sport and leisure activities. Also, the faculty is very helpful and they make sure that each student is getting what she or he needs. The professors are very friendly and they always try to make sure that each student is involved in every class.

Numerous student organizations

The university has been a wonderful experience for me. There are so many things to do on campus and so many resources available for students to use that you don't often need to leave campus. The individuals are welcoming and helpful, and the campus is fantastic. The professors are outstanding. There are numerous peaceful areas throughout the large library. Numerous student organizations, study spaces, and dining options are available at the Student Union. Other on-campus amenities, including the gym, are exceptionally well-maintained, hygienic, and provide a variety of activities. This university is top-notch.
