About The University of Tampa

On Aug. 2, 1933, Tampa Junior College was transformed into The University of Tampa when its headquarters moved from the local high school to what is now known as Plant Hall. Leading the new institution was Frederic H. Spaulding, the former principal of Hillsborough High School and the man who had been the motivating force behind establishing the first local university for Tampa’s high school graduates.

Plant Hall, the main academic and administrative building for the University, already had an extraordinary history. Formerly the Tampa Bay Hotel, the building represented, and still remains, a symbol of the city and its history. Local historians credit its builder, railroad and shipping magnate Henry B. Plant, with the transformation of Tampa from a sleepy fishing village to what would become a vibrant city of the 21st century.

Built between 1888 and 1891, the hotel was designed to surpass all other grand winter resorts. At a cost of $3 million, the 511-room giant rose to a flamboyant height of five stories, surrounded by ornate Victorian gingerbread and topped by Moorish minarets, domes and cupolas.

The rooms that once hosted Teddy Roosevelt, the Queen of England, Booker T. Washington, Stephen Crane and Babe Ruth (who signed his first baseball contract in the hotel’s grand dining room) are now classrooms, laboratories and administrative offices–the heart of The University of Tampa and a landscape for state-of-the-art student learning environments. Today, The University of Tampa serves more than 9,605 undergraduate and graduate students, and Plant Hall remains the foundation of a 110-acre, 70-building campus that successfully blends the historic with the modern.

Known for academic excellence, personal attention and real-world experience in its undergraduate and graduate programs, University of Tampa students come from 50 states and 130 countries. There are over 200 programs of study, including 19 master's degree programs, one doctorate and numerous study abroad opportunities. From its humble beginnings in Plant Hall, UT boasts a $335 million annual revenue and a $1.1 billion estimated annual economic impact.

On-Campus Housing
The University of Tampa offers on-campus housing to new undergraduate students, new graduate students and continuing students. While the Office of Residence Life cannot guarantee on-campus housing for all students, it strives to provide on-campus housing for those students who will benefit the most from the personal and community support of living on campus. The University of Tampa provides many lifestyle options, including 12 state-of-the-art residence halls.

State-of-the-art libraries and labs, art galleries and performance venues, student support centers, exercise, and sporting facilities, and more can all be found on the campus. The club sports program offered at the university campus promotes and develops the interests and skills of individuals through a wide variety of sports and recreational activities. A variety of club sports are available, including equestrian, flag football, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, and volleyball.

Master of Science in Accounting

The University of Tampa Master of Science in Accounting program prepares students for the dynamic nature of a professional career in accounting. Offering both full and part-time schedules, the Master of Science in Accounting graduate curriculum includes courses to help students meet the educational requirements for professional certifications and related exams.

Accounting is often called the language of business. Organizations plan, assess and report the results of operations, financial condition and cash position using accounting principles to prepare financial statements that express business operations to both internal and external users of financial information.

External users assess creditability, performance, risk and investment potential, while internal users assess the efficiency of resource allocation, performance and achievement of strategic objectives in the daily management of a business. All organizations, whether large or small, rely on accountants to record and report the activities of the business.

Accounting - Concentration
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program provides advanced management education that is focused on developing leadership capabilities by exposing students to a wide range of managerial skills and by providing them with the opportunity to develop expertise in an area of business that meets their career goals. To fulfill the requirements for a concentration in accounting students will take a minimum of three graduate-level accounting electives and obtain a “B” grade or better in all of those electives.

Entrepreneurship - Concentration

Through UT’s unique partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center, graduate entrepreneurship students work with physicians to evaluate the feasibility of developing businesses around innovative cancer research and treatment products and services. Students have been instrumental in several new biotech ventures launched by Moffitt scientists and physicians.

Other programs led by the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center include business plan competitions and the Spartan Accelerator, a training initiative to help students and recent alumni grow their technology or Web application businesses.

The University of Tampa Admission Requirements

Admission to The University of Tampa is dependent on meeting certain criteria, which vary depending on the program to which a student applies.

Students should be at least 18 years old before taking admission.
Students should be proficient in English and must have taken IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or other equivalent exams.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from all the academic institutions they have attended. If the transcripts are not in English, then students need to submit translated copies of the same along with the originals.

The campus is large, and it is a very safe, friendly environment that promotes community connection and diversity. Many of my instructors have been outstanding and knowledgeable. The college will be a great experience for students who are academically engaged. Academics are valued in this environment. Students can join a variety of clubs and organizations on campus, as well as access a variety of resources and services. It was easy for me to form strong, long-lasting friendships. I was also heavily involved in campus events, extracurricular activities, and sports, allowing us to be a part of a thriving community. The library is large, and it included all of the things I required for my research.

It has been an amazing experience for me to feel involved and respected at the college. Several opportunities exist for students to gain valuable experience, and professors truly care about their students. A variety of clubs and organizations are available for students. Diversity on campus offers excellent opportunities to learn about different cultures, as well as a wide range of career opportunities. The dining halls have a great variety of food and flavors. The campus appears to be extremely secure. Keeping in shape while you study is easy with the Athletic and Fitness Club, which offers a variety of recreational activities.

No doubts The University of Tampa (UT) is one of the best universities in the US. I studied Marketing here and the faculty here is very experienced and qualified. The campus had a lot to offer, including an excellent library, top-class sports and recreation facilities, world-class academic facilities and friendly school faculty. The infrastructure at the campus is also very good. The university also has an extremely rich alumni network of over 30,000 members, which is great for networking. UT’s MBA program is highly affordable and top schools like the Harvard’s Graduate School of Business are among the list of UT’s partner schools. Needless to say, it's a great place to study, explore and grow.
