Enhance your clinical decision making skills, knowledge and experiences as a laboratory scientist, and open up opportunities for research or leadership within your field of expertise with CQUni's Master of Laboratory Medicine. Benefit from the flexibility to tailor your studies to suit your career goals, choosing between advanced clinical application, management, or research streams.

During your course, you will gain advanced theoretical and technical knowledge in the clinical disciplines of laboratory medicine for application in the diagnostic setting. You will build technical and evaluative skills through laboratory and clinical training to assess and implement recommendations for best practice in patient testing and monitoring. This course will enable you to develop an advanced level of communication skill to interact positively with patients and other health professionals ready for the clinical or scientific work environment.

Clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities are key skills for medical laboratory scientists. You will develop clinical decision-making and problem solving skills through experience in professional practice, clinical case studies and research opportunities. This course features two professional practice units requiring you to complete a total of 560 hours of placement.

Students who are not eligible for advanced standing will be able to refine their laboratory skills by attending a residential school block at our Rockhampton campus, in which travel and accommodation costs are provided for students that are admitted to the Melbourne campus.

This qualification reflects the role of commercial cooks who use a wide range of cookery skills. They use discretion and judgement and have a sound knowledge of kitchen operations. Students work with some independence and under limited supervision and may provide operational advice and support to team members. For those students undertaking the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery who also wish to qualify for the Trade Certification the process of qualifying with trade equivalence may take up to 3 years, however students who are employed throughout this time in the industry may be able to fast track.

CQUniversity's Bachelor of Education (Secondary) will prepare you as a well-rounded graduate that qualifies for professional registration as a teacher throughout Australia.

The course includes 125 days of planned teaching practice in secondary schools plus other opportunities for you to apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways. You will also develop the skills required to teach effectively in a wide range of contemporary educational settings.

During your studies, you will choose two teaching disciplines to focus on, such as biology (including year 7–10 science), business, chemistry (including year 7 to 10 science), English, geography, health and physical education (including year 7–10 HPE and year 11–12 physical education), history, home economics and hospitality, industrial technology and design, mathematics and psychology.

Completing the Bachelor of Oral Health at CQUniversity enables you to apply to the Dental Board of Australia for registration as an Oral Health Therapist.

Designed to equip you with a broad skill set, the course ensures you graduate work-ready. You will develop skills to effectively perform preventive and operative dentistry for patients and provide specialist dental practices. In addition, your education and training will provide you with underpinning industry knowledge so you can educate and promote oral health in small group and community settings.

The course has a strong focus on work-integrated learning in pre-clinical and clinical settings such as our purpose-fit oral health laboratory and dental clinic at CQUniversity Rockhampton. This allows you to gain valuable practical experience whilst also increasing your employability. Oral health can be a diverse and rewarding career. The Bachelor of Engineering Technology is designed to develop your skills and enable you to combine an understanding of engineering concepts with modern technology. Choose between major options, allowing you to pursue a career as an Engineering Technologist in traditional engineering disciplines, or an aircraft maintenance engineer.

If you choose to study the civil, electrical or mechanical majors, your education and training will equip you with the skills to innovatively apply, modify and adapt engineering practices to meet engineering challenges and problems for communities, society and the environment. You will have the opportunity to engage with practicing engineers, work on industry-sponsored projects and have access to industry-based scholarship offered by some of Australia's leading companies. Nine weeks of industry placement during the course also allows you to apply your skills and increase your employability by gaining on-the-job experience.
If you are interested in the aircraft maintenance (avionics) major, you will benefit from our partnership with Aviation Australia and an accelerated pathway to reach Licence Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) status where you will cover all the competencies of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved Aviation Australia Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) and foundations of professional engineering.

The Bachelor of Medical Science aims to develop your skills to apply knowledge of Clinical Measurement, Nutrition or Pathology to clinical practice in a health professional role, or Biotechnology in support industries and medical research.

The course is designed to build a high level of technical and evaluative skill so you can assess and implement recommendations for best practice in patient testing, monitoring, education or to develop therapeutics in the cutting-edge medical biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. The course also aims to develop high level communication skills so that you can interact positively with patients/clients, other health professionals or industry leaders and are ready for the clinical or scientific work environment.

Clinical decision making and problem solving ability will be promoted through opportunities such as developing skills in designing, conducting and interpreting medical research.

Nutrition

Nutrition is an important and diverse field in today's society. Choosing to study Nutrition will enable you to work with individuals or communities to promote healthy lifestyle choices and prevent diet-related disease. Completing the Nutrition specialisation will prepare you for a career in nutrition education, advocacy, food advertising and communication, research, nutrition science, nutrition behaviour, sport and exercise and biomedical nutrition. Please note this major is only available at our Rockhampton campus.

If you're an established or aspiring information technology (IT) professional the Master of Information Technology will expand your professional knowledge and skills in information technology (IT). Accredited by the Australian Computer Society, you will benefit from a highly practical course that meets international standards of ICT allowing you to develop your career globally.

During the course, you will study a common first term made up of four units covering project management, introductory programming, ICT services management and information systems analysis and design. Following completion of your first four units, you will begin studying in your chosen major: networks and information security; mobile application development; and software design and development. Minors cover new technologies such as blockchain, neural networks, machine learning, internet-of-things, sustainable practices with IT, and big data. The project management minor provides a unique opportunity to complete a minor in project management and study set elective units to graduate with both the Masters degree and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management (within the standard two years).

By choosing to study a Graduate Diploma of Information Technology you will obtain the knowledge to successfully design, implement and manage issues involved in the application of Information Technology (IT).

You will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and practicalities of the information systems development process. Your study will also provide a broad understanding of IT applications as well as specific skills in programming, databases and project management.

You have the option to choose one unit from one of the three majors in the Master of Information Technology (software design and development, networks and information security, and mobile application development) plus one elective. After completing this course you will have the skills to manage future business challenges and enhance your individual advancement and employment opportunities.

With this course, you will enhance your knowledge from the areas studied in the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology. The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology is a pathway into the Master of Information Technology.

Podiatrists are health professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Your education and training will explore a variety of health sciences topics such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology and psychology, pediatrics, biomechanics, musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, pharmacology and surgery. You will also develop podiatry-specific skills, enabling you to graduate work-ready.

Practical learning experiences are integral to the course, and you will benefit from completing clinical placements at the newly established, purpose-built Allied Health Clinic at CQUniversity, as well as in a variety of external clinical settings, so you can put your learning into practice and gain real-life experience.
