This qualification reflects the role of commercial cooks who use a wide range of cookery skills. They use discretion and judgement and have a sound knowledge of kitchen operations. Students work with some independence and under limited supervision and may provide operational advice and support to team members. For those students undertaking the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery who also wish to qualify for the Trade Certification the process of qualifying with trade equivalence may take up to 3 years, however students who are employed throughout this time in the industry may be able to fast track.

HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing reflects the role of an enrolled nurse working under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse.

Enrolled nurses provide nursing care for people across the health care continuum and at all stages of life.

To be eligible to apply for registration as an enrolled nurse and to practice in Australia, individuals must complete a Diploma of Nursing program accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and approved as ‘an approved program of study’ by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) in accordance with the Enrolled Nurse Accreditation Standards.

The Bachelor of Medical Science aims to develop your skills to apply knowledge of Clinical Measurement, Nutrition or Pathology to clinical practice in a health professional role, or Biotechnology in support industries and medical research.

The course is designed to build a high level of technical and evaluative skill so you can assess and implement recommendations for best practice in patient testing, monitoring, education or to develop therapeutics in the cutting-edge medical biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. The course also aims to develop high level communication skills so that you can interact positively with patients/clients, other health professionals or industry leaders and are ready for the clinical or scientific work environment.

Clinical decision making and problem solving ability will be promoted through opportunities such as developing skills in designing, conducting and interpreting medical research.

Biotechnology

The biotechnology specialisation will explore the ways in which living things and their molecular constituents are used as tools. With an emphasis on medical applications, you will be ideally placed to pursue a career in the BioPharma industry and medical diagnostics. Please note this major is only available at our Rockhampton campus.

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology is designed to develop your skills and enable you to combine an understanding of engineering concepts with modern technology. Choose between major options, allowing you to pursue a career as an Engineering Technologist in traditional engineering disciplines, or an aircraft maintenance engineer.

If you choose to study the civil, electrical or mechanical majors, your education and training will equip you with the skills to innovatively apply, modify and adapt engineering practices to meet engineering challenges and problems for communities, society and the environment. If you are interested in the aircraft maintenance (avionics) major, you will benefit from our partnership with Aviation Australia and an accelerated pathway to reach Licence Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) status where you will cover all the competencies of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved Aviation Australia Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) and foundations of professional engineering.

If you're an established or aspiring information technology (IT) professional the Master of Information Technology will expand your professional knowledge and skills in information technology (IT). Accredited by the Australian Computer Society, you will benefit from a highly practical course that meets international standards of ICT allowing you to develop your career globally.

During the course, you will study a common first term made up of four units covering project management, introductory programming, ICT services management and information systems analysis and design. Minors cover new technologies such as blockchain, neural networks, machine learning, internet-of-things, sustainable practices with IT, and big data. The project management minor provides a unique opportunity to complete a minor in project management and study set elective units to graduate with both the Masters degree and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management (within the standard two years).

The aim of this course is to give you a comprehensive overview of the scientific discipline of psychology and its applications. The course is delivered in accordance with the foundational (level one) competencies for three-year undergraduate psychology programs as specified by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). You will acquire an understanding of the underlying principles, theories and concepts within the discipline. In addition, you will develop knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the discipline, and an understanding of the methodologies and statistical techniques used by researchers for information gathering and analysis. There will be opportunities for you to explore applied and professional uses of psychology. In addition, you will be introduced to psychological theory, research, and applied and professional uses of psychology in an ethical and culturally responsive context.

Upon completion of this course, you will have a highly marketable quali?cation. This course is universally acknowledged as an indication of competence and achievement in understanding human thought and behaviour that can be applied in a variety of people-oriented vocations. Graduating with this qualification, however, will not allow you to call yourself a 'psychologist'. This requires further study involving an Honours course (4th year of study) and then an accredited Psychology Board of Australia pathway.

The newly designed Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) develops your problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills and incorporates project-based learning so you can graduate work ready.

The first year of your studies provides a generic understanding of engineering, allowing you to experience each different area of engineering before you choose a particular path to follow. Later in your studies you have the flexibility to choose to study Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic or Resource Systems Engineering.
