Medical Biotechnology
Medical Biotechnology uses living cells and cell materials to produce pharmaceutical and diagnostic products that help treat and prevent human diseases. This major provides you with a sound understanding of the core sciences underpinning biotechnology for medical advancement. You will be taken on a journey from the development of the first medical treatments through to regenerative medicine and cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic deliver systems such as nanotechnology and the associated social and ethical issues surrounding their use. You will also learn the business of medical biotechnology including risk management, funding and regulatory frameworks relative to the Medical Biotechnology industry.

Deakin’s Bachelor of Forensic Science exposes you to the full scope of modern forensic science, from simulated crime scenes to courtroom presentations. With a strong focus on practical training, you’ll graduate with the skills needed to confidently examine, interpret and present forensic evidence. You’ll enhance your courtroom skills by building knowledge of the science behind criminal investigations and gaining practical experience in our unique crime scene training facility.

Forensic Biology
The forensic biology major aims to provide you with the specific biological skills that are very important in the forensic science workplace. These biological-based skills complement the generic forensic science attributes developed in the core units of the course.

Deakin's Bachelor of Psychological Science covers many aspects of human behaviour and personality, and prepares you for a range of careers in the fast-growing health sector.^ The course also sets you up to pursue further study towards provisional registration as a psychologist. This course is offered at Burwood, Geelong, Warrnambool and online, so you can study where and when it suits you and our flexible trimester system means you can fast-track the course over two years of full-time study. This major brings together complementary units from within Health and Social Development and Psychology with a particular focus on the health and development of the family system and its members. Infection and Immunity
The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. You will also learn current laboratory techniques engaged in molecular diagnostics for the analytical identification of infectious pathogens to develop therapeutic applications.
