Visual communication design
Enter the dynamic world of professional design with a major in Visual Communication Design. Learn the tools, strategies and techniques required to be an adaptive, creative practitioner. From day one you’ll be mentored by established designers and industry leaders, learning the fundamental building blocks of design to translate ideas into smart design solutions addressing pressing global issues. Using the latest technologies, you’ll work across industry sectors including digital and publishing, social media, mobile apps, the web, and immersive, and interactive experiences. With Deakin University’s Bachelor of Arts - Visual Communication Design major, you’ll look at the world differently by developing critical skills appropriate for tomorrow’s world of complex systems involving people, machines, and services. Develop an in-depth understanding of human biology with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and graduate with the skills and experience to play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at molecular, cellular and systems levels. Expertise in biology and the science behind disease puts you in a position to make a real difference. Explore early diagnosis, disease progression and prognosis, and the role of pharmaceutical science in the treatment of disease and improved health.
Infection and Immunity
The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. Bachelor of Nutrition Science in Disability and Inclusion
More than 7% of total burden of disease in Australia is due to poor diet*. Study Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science and help tackle the challenges facing our society including disease prevention, lifespan nutrition, obesity, the spread of misinformation, and the social and physiological effects of food on our wellbeing. Modelled on commercial laboratories, our food preparation, food analysis and two sensory laboratories give students hands-on real-world laboratory experience preparing you for the workplace.
Gain at least 75 hours of workplace training through industry placement. These experiences ensure you have the practical skills to improve health through food and nutrition – skills that are increasingly in demand as society grapples with nutrition-related diseases and their impact on wellbeing. This course provides a pathway to the Master of Dietetics, which allocates 60% of places to Deakin graduates.
Disability and Inclusion
Completion of this major will equip students with skills to be an inclusion professional, working to overcome the social and structural barriers that contribute to disability. Students can apply these skills alongside those of other majors and disciplines, including skills in inclusive communication strategies, inclusive services, advocacy and human rights.
