Financial Planning
Choosing a major sequence in financial planning will provide you with the skills you need to attain your own personal financial goals and to develop the expertise to advise others in a professional capacity. Financial planners specialise in key financial areas, including retirement taxation, investment and estate planning. You will examine both the theoretical framework of financial planning, plus the practical application of the theories and strategies.

Explore early diagnosis, disease progression and prognosis, and the role of pharmaceutical science in the treatment of disease and improved health. 

Infection and Immunity
The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. You will also learn current laboratory techniques engaged in molecular diagnostics for the analytical identification of infectious pathogens to develop therapeutic applications.

Visual communication design

Enter the dynamic world of professional design with a major in Visual Communication Design. Learn the tools, strategies and techniques required to be an adaptive, creative practitioner. From day one you’ll be mentored by established designers and industry leaders, learning the fundamental building blocks of design to translate ideas into smart design solutions addressing pressing global issues. Using the latest technologies, you’ll work across industry sectors including digital and publishing, social media, mobile apps, the web, and immersive, and interactive experiences. With Deakin University’s Bachelor of Arts - Visual Communication Design major, you’ll look at the world differently by developing critical skills appropriate for tomorrow’s world of complex systems involving people, machines, and services. Through individual design projects, and peer and industry collaboration you’ll develop insight into design research and history and learn to select and apply design strategy and design thinking methods make positive contributions to the creative fields. Politics and Policy Studies
A Politics and Policy Studies major will enhance your understanding of the big issues in the world today, and assist you to develop the skills to make a difference in your lifetime. We investigate the challenge posed to Australia and the world by climate change; asylum seekers and refugees; development; inequality; political parties and new social movements. We examine the ideas behind the policy and the rhetoric. We look globally for different solutions; investigate how policy lessons are learned; and assess the impact on domestic and global politics. We examine how and why some people are able to exercise power better than others, and assess ideas and opportunities for addressing the pressing social, economic, and environmental issues of our time.

More than 7% of total burden of disease in Australia is due to poor diet*. Study Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science and help tackle the challenges facing our society including disease prevention, lifespan nutrition, obesity, the spread of misinformation, and the social and physiological effects of food on our wellbeing. Modelled on commercial laboratories, our food preparation, food analysis and two sensory laboratories give students hands-on real-world laboratory experience preparing you for the workplace.

Gain at least 75 hours of workplace training through industry placement. These experiences ensure you have the practical skills to improve health through food and nutrition – skills that are increasingly in demand as society grapples with nutrition-related diseases and their impact on wellbeing. This course provides a pathway to the Master of Dietetics, which allocates 60% of places to Deakin graduates.
Disability and Inclusion

Completion of this major will equip students with skills to be an inclusion professional, working to overcome the social and structural barriers that contribute to disability. Students can apply these skills alongside those of other majors and disciplines, including skills in inclusive communication strategies, inclusive services, advocacy and human rights. 

If you are inspired to teach young children, Deakin’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Education provides you with the opportunity to explore early childhood education curriculum theories and pedagogies, child development, health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, professional studies as well as teaching and learning in discipline areas of literacy, mathematics, science and the arts.

You’ll undertake professional placements through Deakin’s Professional Experience Program gaining both practical knowledge and skills to teach children aged birth to 5 years. By experiencing learning across a range of early childhood settings, you will graduate equipped with the confidence and aptitude to meet the significant growth of the Australian early childhood education sector.

Study the Master of Business Analytics to become a business analytics professional capable of addressing business opportunities and challenges through analytics-based solutions. The program is designed to meet industry needs, and has been developed in conjunction with our course partners including IBM, Microsoft, Altis Consulting, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PBT Group and PwC.

This course introduces you to a range of internationally recognised business intelligence and analytics tools and has a strong focus on practical learning. You’ll learn how decision-making problems in business can be solved using modern modelling and solution techniques.

During the course, you'll have the opportunity to complement your primary studies in business analytics with a specialisation in a wide range of business-related fields. Designed to meet current and future demands for skilled professionals with a breadth of transferrable skills, a specialisation can help deepen your knowledge in a particular business field, broadening your skills and making you more employable.
