Mathematical Modelling

Infection and Immunity
The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. You will also learn current laboratory techniques engaged in molecular diagnostics for the analytical identification of infectious pathogens to develop therapeutic applications.

This course equips you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to design and develop innovative software solutions to address multifaceted information and technology problems faced by our community, business, and industry. Media Studies

Hope your skills analysing the practices and processes that drive the creation and consumption of media around the globe. Media Studies at Deakin focuses on the role of literature, film, television and the full range of digital media in creating, shaping and re-shaping society and culture. You will explore the structures of the global film and television industries, debate issues of globalisation and representation and appreciate the role that different media texts play in understanding self and society.

Take your screen practice to the next level with an honours year. Build on the practical skills and depth of knowledge developed in the first three years of your degree by undertaking an advanced research project through Deakin's Bachelor of Film, Television and Animation (Honours). You will undergo an elevated study experience to emerge as a critically engaged, highly skilled screen practitioner and researcher.

The honours program opens doors to a career in the screen industry or the opportunity to delve deeper into your research with a masters degree or PhD. More than 7% of total burden of disease in Australia is due to poor diet*. Study Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science and help tackle the challenges facing our society including disease prevention, lifespan nutrition, obesity, the spread of misinformation, and the social and physiological effects of food on our wellbeing. Modelled on commercial laboratories, our food preparation, food analysis and two sensory laboratories give students hands-on real-world laboratory experience preparing you for the workplace.

Gain at least 75 hours of workplace training through industry placement. These experiences ensure you have the practical skills to improve health through food and nutrition – skills that are increasingly in demand as society grapples with nutrition-related diseases and their impact on wellbeing. This course provides a pathway to the Master of Dietetics, which allocates 60% of places to Deakin graduates.

Exercise Science
This major provides students with a sound understanding of the core sciences underpinning both competitive sport and recreational physical activity. A variety of learning approaches is adopted, allowing students to integrate their sporting interests with their studies, as well as to match these with their employment objectives.

This is an advanced course in human nutrition which draws content from related disciplines such as public health, food science, biochemistry, physiology, epidemiology, psychology, sociology and politics and policy.

Throughout the course you will develop advanced knowledge of human nutrition, an understanding of the biological, social and policy related aspects of human nutrition, and skills that will enable you to practise effectively as a nutritionist in a range of employment settings.
