Organisational Psychology
Psychology is concerned with understanding human personality, behaviours, emotions, underlying mental processes and the factors that lead people to differ in the way they think and behave. In the Psychology major sequence you will be exposed to a contemporary integrative approach to psychology and human relationships, one that recognises the importance of, and interrelationships between personality, culture, and cognition, as well as the psychological functions and dysfunctions that shape behaviour in the real world.

Develop an in-depth understanding of human biology with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and graduate with the skills and experience to play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at molecular, cellular and systems levels. The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. You will also learn current laboratory techniques engaged in molecular diagnostics for the analytical identification of infectious pathogens to develop therapeutic applications.

Gender and Sexuality Studies

Through an integrated study of local experiences and transnational flows of knowledge and influences, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Deakin provides students with an understanding of key forces which shape our understandings and lived experiences of gender and sexuality, both as cultural phenomena and as embodied practices. In particular, the programme emphasizes the intersectional dimensions of gender and sexuality, addressing questions of class, citizenship, ethnicity, race, religion, ability, and geographical location. Throughout their studies, units in this Major help students to develop skills to analytically reflect on, and contribute to, a range of important debates. These include discussions about how sex, gender and sexuality inform understandings of the self, and how we recognize and respond to difference.
