Deakin’s Master of Dietetics explores the important relationship between diet and disease. Accredited by Dietitians Australia (DA) (formerly the Dietitians Association of Australia) and shaped by decades of industry input, this course trains you to prescribe science-based treatments for a wide range of health issues, from obesity and diabetes, to allergies and malnutrition. If you’re passionate about improving the wellbeing of the people around you through diet, the Master of Dietetics allows you to cut through misinformation to unlock solutions that are shaped by evidence and tested with scientific rigour.

Combine studies in medical nutrition therapy, public health nutrition and food service management to graduate with a well-rounded set of skills that prepare you for a variety of roles. English - Children's Literature
Deakin is a world leader in children’s and young people’s literature and has developed a full major in the Bachelor of Arts in this growing field. Discover major trends in children’s texts across a range of media, and how stories for young people reflect and challenge the values of their time. This study area caters to students who are interested in children’s literature as a prominent domain of literary production and is of particular relevance to those who intend to work with children and young people as primary or secondary teachers and librarians, and those who wish to produce texts for young people.

Curious about what makes people think, feel and behave the way they do? Deakin's Bachelor of Psychological Science covers many aspects of human behaviour and personality, and prepares you for a range of careers in the fast-growing health sector.^ The course also sets you up to pursue further study towards provisional registration as a psychologist. Core employability-orientated units and the option of undertaking 140 hours of real-world experience with an industry placement will strengthen your employment prospects and help you graduate work-ready.
 
This course is offered at Burwood, Geelong, Warrnambool and online, so you can study where and when it suits you and our flexible trimester system means you can fast-track the course over two years of full-time study. Deakin is also the only university in Victoria where you can study specialist psychology majors during your undergraduate degree, so you can pursue your interests early on with a major in Child and Family, Organisational Studies or Forensic Studies.

Develop an in-depth understanding of human biology with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and graduate with the skills and experience to play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at molecular, cellular and systems levels. Expertise in biology and the science behind disease puts you in a position to make a real difference. Explore early diagnosis, disease progression and prognosis, and the role of pharmaceutical science in the treatment of disease and improved health. 

Infection and Immunity
The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. You will also learn current laboratory techniques engaged in molecular diagnostics for the analytical identification of infectious pathogens to develop therapeutic applications.

Visual communication design

Enter the dynamic world of professional design with a major in Visual Communication Design. Learn the tools, strategies and techniques required to be an adaptive, creative practitioner. From day one you’ll be mentored by established designers and industry leaders, learning the fundamental building blocks of design to translate ideas into smart design solutions addressing pressing global issues. Using the latest technologies, you’ll work across industry sectors including digital and publishing, social media, mobile apps, the web, and immersive, and interactive experiences. With Deakin University’s Bachelor of Arts - Visual Communication Design major, you’ll look at the world differently by developing critical skills appropriate for tomorrow’s world of complex systems involving people, machines, and services. Through individual design projects, and peer and industry collaboration you’ll develop insight into design research and history and learn to select and apply design strategy and design thinking methods make positive contributions to the creative fields. International Relations
International Relations provides you with a better understanding of global political systems and relationships. Why do states co-operate with each other? Why do they make war? How can we define power and security? What role does globalisation play in state interactions and how does the international system deal with issues such as human rights, humanitarian and environmental challenges? Examinations of the politics of the Asia-Pacific region and Australia’s place in the world are also key to this major.

If you are inspired to teach young children, Deakin’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Education provides you with the opportunity to explore early childhood education curriculum theories and pedagogies, child development, health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, professional studies as well as teaching and learning in discipline areas of literacy, mathematics, science and the arts.

You’ll undertake professional placements through Deakin’s Professional Experience Program gaining both practical knowledge and skills to teach children aged birth to 5 years. By experiencing learning across a range of early childhood settings, you will graduate equipped with the confidence and aptitude to meet the significant growth of the Australian early childhood education sector.
