The School of Health and Biomedical Sciences conducts research in the area of ageing and chronic disease, including:

• Dementia, depression and cognitive impairment in chronic disease
• Early-life determinants of chronic disease
• Hearing loss and tinnitus
• Postural balance and dizziness in the elderly
• Sleep disorders

You will undertake clinical or experimental research in one of these fields with an individual supervisor overseeing your development and progress.

The Diploma of Nursing has been designed to help you build knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment. Through on-campus simulation laboratories and industry placements, you'll graduate ready to help others.

There continues to be a high demand for enrolled nurses, and job expectations in this field are strong. In this nationally-accredited diploma, you will gain the skills to help provide acute, curative and rehabilatative care under the direction of a registered nurse.

You’ll learn to work with patients of all ages in different environments. There is a focus on aged care, community, acute care and mental health. You’ll also learn how to administer intravenous medications and gain the skills in acute care, which involves medical and surgical nursing skills.

This diploma is a core requirement that can be used in your application to be credentialed by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses, which will allow you to practice as a recognised Mental Health Nurse. Upon graduation, you will be able to access a Graduate Diploma allowance under the Victorian Public Mental Health Nurses award and seek promotional positions that require this qualification.

You can select between applied research well supported by industry which will deliver innovative new products and processes, and fundamental research leading to ground breaking new knowledge.

You'll examine how such disorders affect biomechanics, the nervous system and health in general. The focus is on manual treatments such as spinal adjustments and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.

Anatomy, physiology and pathology courses underpin the clinical science studies of physical examination, differential diagnosis for the chiropractor and clinical practicum.

You will begin work-integrated learning immediately, culminating in your fourth year when you will perform patient-care duties with supervision from a registered practitioner.

At the RMIT Health Clinic at University Hill, Bundoora, fourth and fifth year students, under the supervision of registered chiropractors, treat patients using a wide variety of management approaches.
