With a strong focus on ideas-led venturous design exploration, RMIT’s Master of Architecture will assist you to develop a sophisticated understanding of architecture, while providing you with a diverse set of advanced skills and learning experiences.

You’ll continue to develop the core skills of architectural design learnt in the degree to an advanced level. You will enhance your understanding of architecture and design-based research, acquire diverse skills, undertake a wide variety of learning experiences and gain critical awareness of your own work.

Seize the opportunity to contribute to the diversity of practice in art in public space, where you may explore commissioned or uncommissioned work, and through this, contribute to the evolving practice.

This degree brings together both education and research and encourages active collaboration between art and design practitioners and the community. You will address issues within art in public space that are central to current international cultural debate. You will gain a broad understanding of discourses and practices of public art by examining current definitions of public space, and learning to deal with the challenges that arise from such definitions.
You will explore multiple views of how art is presented and received in the urban context and address questions such as:

• Where are the spaces that enable art to be an active interpretation, rather than decoration, of the city?
• Who should define policies for public culture?
• How can art negotiate the new spaces of the contemporary public sphere, such as the internet?

The Master of Design (Fashion and Textiles) by Research program enables you to develop an advanced body of knowledge that you may apply to a range of stimulating, real-life research contexts.

Individually supervised research programs are aligned to one of the School’s Centre for Materials Innovation and Future Fashion or the School’s research streams.

These research areas reflect the School’s research supervisors’ expertise along with the available resources and collaborative relationships with industry and other research organisations.

The Master of Design may be undertaken by project or by thesis mode:

• The project mode is directed towards candidates taking a creative practice-led approach to conduct research into fashion design, textile design, curatorial practice, communication, or interdisciplinary design.
• The thesis mode is directed towards candidates taking a social science approach to conduct research into an aspect of the fashion and textiles system such as design practice, curatorial practice, historical or contemporary cultural studies, enterprise or ethical practice.

This decision is made in consultation with your supervisor. You should discuss these program modes with your potential supervisor/s prior to your application.

During your studies, you will build a strong understanding of intercultural, social and political issues and how to address them. You have the opportunity to select a specialisation stream, with three to choose from:

Global Security
What are the international security challenges that leaders face, and how can communication, strategy and policy help manage this?

The Diploma of Conservation and Land Management will introduce you to the skills used by land managers, park rangers, site assessors, water quality assessors and conservation staff.

You'll learn how to survey animals and plants, monitor waterways, assess and restore natural sites, and undertake cultural studies relating to land management.

You will also go on field trips to a variety of locations around Melbourne, as well as overnight excursions to places such as Heywood and Barmah Forest.

Learn to be a leader in the classroom, using the latest educational technologies to support your teaching practice.

In the Master of Teaching Practice (Primary Education) you’ll combine hands-on experiences with theoretical learning. Studying in the heart of Melbourne and in local classroom settings, this degree is designed to help you build the skills you need to be an effective and influential teacher, showing you how to provide a positive impact on the lives of primary school children.

Gain the skills you need to become a technician in laboratories in hospitals, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, private pathology and testing laboratories.

In the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, you will be taught to apply your knowledge of living systems to solving important practical issues including controlling disease and making the environment safer.
Using the latest industry-standard equipment, you’ll build the knowledge and skills required to work under supervision to:

• Examine micro-organisms or changes in cells and tissues
• Perform analysis of pathology, environmental and chemical samples
• Assist with research into biochemical or genetic processes.

You will also benefit from the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. Upon completion of this certificate, you may go on to work in vaccine production, food and materials testing, pathology, or research. Alternatively, you might prefer to pursue the Diploma of Laboratory Technology, or other further study of your choice.

You’ll be introduced to key institutions and concepts in criminal justice, including policing and the correctional system. You’ll also learn about the uses of technology in crime, crime theories and crime investigation.

The highly-regarded Bachelor of Criminal Justice focuses on preparing you for employment. Close links with criminal justice agencies are built into its design, development and delivery.
You'll explore how criminal justice systems work to serve individuals and the community through law enforcement, policy, practice and reform.

Classes about international human rights, global crime and public policy will give you the chance to expand your knowledge and expertise. In your final year, you’ll put your skills to the test with a 50-day work placement in a criminal justice organisation.

Learn through innovative programs like the Bridge of Hope Innocence Initative, a project where students work on real cases of wrongful conviction. 

If you want to enter the police forces, or work in corrections, courts, customs and related agencies, this degree is for you. It also provides a qualification for those working in relevant agencies to assist with career progression and moving into other related fields.
