Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has penetrated into all areas of industry sectors, such as retail, banking, health and education. The course concentrates on developing and extending your knowledge needed for ICT roles within the fast-growing ICT industry and other relevant industry sectors. This is reflected in our specialisations and units that cover core ICT discipline topics such as Networking, and Web and Mobile Computing.

Networking (Major)
The Networking major is aimed at providing students with knowledge in emerging areas of networking. It focuses on essential fundamentals as well as advanced knowledge on the principles, practices, protocols and standards in some key areas of the networking discipline. This major prepares students for careers in network security and management, multimedia and wireless communications, and other contemporary and emerging networking areas. The major is also designed to introduce students to trends and key research areas in some emerging fields in networking so as to provide students with initial skills and knowledge for future research studies or careers.

Work integrated learning
Students will undertake 120 hours fulltime or part-time equivalent industry placements as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component which is required for successful completion of the course. You will work in an external organisation in Australia or within a department/division within Western Sydney University carrying out tasks related to ICT. This will provide you with real-world industry experience in Australia. Students can nominate an external organisation of their choice. Students with substantial post-qualification work experience in Australia maybe eligible for advanced standing for this unit.

Public Relations (Major)
The Public Relations major provides you with valuable skills and knowledge in consultancy, media relations, event management, issues and crisis management and campaign development. The course focuses on the role of the public relations practitioner or adviser, and provides a theoretical framework of the industry. The major also develops a strategic understanding of the public sphere from national and international viewpoints.

The Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is a professional course that will provide you with solid skills and a knowledge base in ICT.

It will provide you with the skills to apply practical solutions to ICT including systems analysis and design, application development, program design, networks, web development and the implementation of technology.

Networking and Cloud Computing (Major)
The Networking and Cloud Computing major provides students with in-depth knowledge for the analysis, design, and implementation of cloud and networked systems. It offers students the opportunity to develop the technical skills needed for the management and secure operations of a broad range of systems, including LANs, WANs, wireless and mobile networks, and large heterogeneous networks.

Today, to implement technology, practising professionals need to understand the context in which computer technology can best be selected, applied and implemented.

Big Data (Major)
This major covers theories and technologies of big data with applications to information systems. You will possess and apply the technical skills for managing large volumes and varieties of data in the information systems context.

You will develop the professional competencies required for high-quality care and the skills to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Effective solutions to these challenges will require innovative engineering, applied science and design strategies. At Sydney City Campus, we will prepare you to take on those challenges and succeed. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree covers major engineering domains, including civil, electrical and mechanical. You will get the opportunity to experience many facets of engineering before deciding on the area of specialisation at the end of first year.
