The course concentrates on developing and extending your knowledge needed for ICT roles within the fast-growing ICT industry and other relevant industry sectors. This is reflected in our specialisations and units that cover core ICT discipline topics such as Networking, and Web and Mobile Computing.

Web and Mobile Computing (Major)
The widespread deployment of web and mobile devices has made them a target of choice for companies to carry out their everyday business. The contemporary developers are expected to understand the strengths and limitations of web and mobile technologies and fit these to create successful user-friendly web and/or mobile applications. This specialisation is aimed at developing knowledge and skills in theoretical concepts and practical technologies needed to design and develop complex software applications across a range of web and mobile platforms. Students with these knowledge and skills will have greater prospects of finding employment with reputable companies or building their career as self-employed developers.

Work integrated learning
Students will undertake 120 hours fulltime or part-time equivalent industry placements as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component which is required for successful completion of the course. You will work in an external organisation in Australia or within a department/division within Western Sydney University carrying out tasks related to ICT. This will provide you with real-world industry experience in Australia. Students can nominate an external organisation of their choice. Students with substantial post-qualification work experience in Australia maybe eligible for advanced standing for this unit.

In this major, students learn how to create high quality software to meet client needs. This involves applying the theories and practices of software development to determine requirements, design and deliver solutions. In this software development lifecycle process, students use a range of technologies, and programming skills used for the development of software systems and distributed applications. In addition, students develop the ability to identify, analyse, and formulate solutions to real-world problems in the software development domain. In devising these solutions students also consider principles associated with user interface design, professional and ethical issues, in particular those relating to security and privacy of user data and user behaviour related to software development and associated applications.
