Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has penetrated into all areas of industry sectors, such as retail, banking, health and education. ICT professionals are required to have cross disciplinary knowledge and skills, while the speed of change in ICT requires professionals to update their knowledge and skills every few years. The course concentrates on developing and extending your knowledge needed for ICT roles within the fast-growing ICT industry and other relevant industry sectors. This is reflected in our specialisations and units that cover core ICT discipline topics such as Networking, and Web and Mobile Computing.

Networking (Major)
The Networking major is aimed at providing students with knowledge in emerging areas of networking. It focuses on essential fundamentals as well as advanced knowledge on the principles, practices, protocols and standards in some key areas of the networking discipline. This major prepares students for careers in network security and management, multimedia and wireless communications, and other contemporary and emerging networking areas. The major is also designed to introduce students to trends and key research areas in some emerging fields in networking so as to provide students with initial skills and knowledge for future research studies or careers.

Work integrated learning
Students will undertake 120 hours fulltime or part-time equivalent industry placements as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component which is required for successful completion of the course. You will work in an external organisation in Australia or within a department/division within Western Sydney University carrying out tasks related to ICT. This will provide you with real-world industry experience in Australia. Students can nominate an external organisation of their choice. Students with substantial post-qualification work experience in Australia maybe eligible for advanced standing for this unit.

The Bachelor of Engineering Science is offered as an entry program to a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). It is also offered as a three-year exit course for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

The course structure, core subjects and electives are similar to the first three years of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) course. The Bachelor of Engineering Science is offered with key programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering (Major)
The mechanical engineering program covers the design of mechanical systems for a wide range of applications, including manufacturing, transportation and energy conversion.
The course delivers fundamental engineering principles, as well as an intensive hands-on laboratory program to provide the skills necessary for the design of machines, ensuring their functionality, safety and reliability.

Information Systems are becoming integral to modern culture and are a primary engine behind much of the world’s economic and social change. Today, to implement technology, practising professionals need to understand the context in which computer technology can best be selected, applied and implemented.

Mobile Computing (Major)
The Mobile Computing major covers theories and technologies used for the development of distributed applications for hand-held mobile devices. You will understand the advanced principles related to mobile hardware devices, data storage and transmission, and communication networks. In addition you will identify, analyse, and formulate solutions to real-world problems in the mobile domain.

You don’t need to have studied business before, or have relevant work experience – we start from the basics and build your business knowledge through the course.

Finance (Specialisation)
This specialisation introduces the fundamental concepts of finance theory – the time value of money, risk and return, capital budgeting and capital structure, and the tools of financial decision-making in the context of the Australian institutional environment. You will examine the investment, financing and dividend decisions of corporations and develop an understanding of the basic practices of financial management from the perspective of both large and small firms.

Work integrated learning
Gaining practical experience is a cornerstone of the MBA program, and is supported by our strong links with Australian businesses. You will have the opportunity to complete either a business internship or a business project unit, applying the knowledge you have gained during the course of your degree. These units provide you with the chance to solve a real-world business problem in collaboration with an organisation or business entity while completing an internship, or to undertake a research project in your chosen field.

The Bachelor of Accounting will provide you with an in-depth knowledge of accounting, supported by the associated disciplines of law, economics, finance and statistics.
