Philosophy

Economics is an influential social science that explores human behaviour and decision-making, with a focus on the roles played by incentives, resource constraints, laws, customs, and institutions. When you study the Bachelor of Economics at UNSW, you’ll explore how the decisions of institutions and individuals interact to determine outcomes for the economy and society.

As a graduate of economics, your distinct insights can be applied broadly. Through this degree, you'll gain highly transferable analytical skills that are valuable in a diverse range of careers.  In addition to more traditional economic issues like unemployment, taxation, and trade policy, economics allows you to understand and address human challenges like inequality, climate change, corruption, political polarisation, and impediments to education and health care.

The Master of Public Health is widely recognised as essential for a career in population health, including health promotion, primary health care, policy formulation, research and management of health programs. You will extend your knowledge and skills in public health research by undertaking an advanced research project.

This Master of Public Health (Extension) degree will give you a sophisticated understanding across the complex body of multidisciplinary knowledge of public health including epidemiology, biostatistics, social determinants of health, health promotion, population research methodologies, and health program design, implementation and evaluation. You will be perfectly positioned to pursue a PhD in Public Health to further advance your career in public health research.

Computer Science is the study of the design, construction and use of computer systems. When you complete a Bachelor of Computer Science at UNSW, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge required for computer applications to be developed.

Working with both hardware and software, this undergraduate degree teaches the basic principles behind computing tools, operating systems, compilers and translators, and computer hardware.

The Bachelor of Computer Science also focuses on the representation of data and data structures in computer systems and the design of algorithms for automatic manipulation of this information by programming languages and machine systems.

Manufacturing engineers develop products, as well as the machines that create them. Mechanical and manufacturing engineers apply scientific and engineering knowledge to the development, manufacture and distribution of all types of products. They research, design, build, test, maintain and improve almost everything, from power plants and renewable energy systems to robots and cars.

In this degree, you’ll learn how to transform a design from a conceptual stage into a prototype and finally into a commercially viable product. You’ll integrate the knowledge gained from this degree into a framework and process that allows you to implement your designs, solutions and ideas in a commercial environment.

The final year courses are based on global industry best practice in manufacturing and industrial engineering. You’ll study across the following subjects:

The Master of Global Health (Extension) provides you with the advanced knowledge and technical capacities to contribute to disease control, health promotion, health services development and public health research across a wide range of populations and countries. It fosters sophisticated knowledge and skills that can be applied to a broad range of highly complex public health issues in global health.

This degree also includes a research project which will cultivate your critical thinking and communication skills as you explore contemporary health issues globally. You will be equipped with specialised professional skills needed for research and professional practice to work globally in health departments, with government and non-government organisations (NGOs), and with international and bilateral aid agencies in both the public and private sectors.

The UNSW Master of Interpreting is a 1.7 year full-time postgraduate degree that gives you practical experience in professional settings, alongside skills and theoretical foundations based on current research. Learn from leading interpreting and linguistics practitioners and researchers to prepare a successful career and open up opportunities in a variety of industries, both in Australia and overseas. The Master of Global Health (Extension)/Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence will provide you with advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills to undertake infectious diseases prevention and control and health services management roles in government, community and health service settings with a focus on international settings.

The degree, which features three electives in International Health, fosters a sophisticated understanding and application across a complex body of multidisciplinary knowledge including infectious diseases intelligence, policy design, implementation and evaluation. This degree also includes a research project which will cultivate your critical thinking and communication skills as you explore contemporary global health issues.

On graduating, you will be equipped with the specialised skills and concepts needed for professional practice in the prevention, identification, assessment, and control of infectious diseases.

This degree is designed for anyone looking to contribute to improving population health and work across a range of contexts including ministries and departments of health, government and non-government and voluntary organisations, military and first responder organisations, primary care and community healthcare services in both public and private sectors.

Combine your interest in mathematics with engineering. Choose from a wide range of engineering specialisations, from traditional disciplines such as civil engineering and electrical engineering, through to those tailored to modern challenges, such as renewable energy engineering.
