Media is the glue of a modern society. It now shapes every aspect of life today. The Bachelor of Media at UNSW unlocks the specialist expertise, self-knowledge, creative thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to make an impact as a media professional, or simply set you up as a more aware professional to succeed in your second and third job, not just your first.

You’ll have the opportunity to tailor a degree to your specific interests. Specialise in cinema studies, communications and journalism, media studies, public relations & advertising, or screen production. Communication & journalism
Telling stories effectively, ethically, and powerfully—whether on a page, on a screen, or in a VR environment—is at the heart of studying communications and journalism at UNSW.

UNSW’s Bachelor of Commerce/Arts is a double degree that will equip you with business experience and expertise, combined with the creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills that come with an arts degree. Both degrees offer flexibility, allowing you to shape your degree to match your ambitions and interests.

The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been designed with consultation from industry to set you up for lifelong employability. By combining your BCom with a Bachelor of Arts, you can choose from a diverse range of majors and subjects in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You'll develop an in-depth knowledge and breadth of understanding, gaining the tools to think critically, communicate effectively and conduct independent research.

Medical science is the foundation that the practice of medicine is built on. This degree delves into how the human body functions and responds to disease and drug treatments. It incorporates facets of several scientific disciplines to provide you with an extensive understanding of the human body.

The Bachelor of Medical Science explores:

• The structure and chemistry of the cells that make up living organisms (cell & molecular biology and biochemistry)
• The structure and function of the human body (anatomy and physiology)
• The general processes leading to disease (pathology)
• The role of bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms in disease (microbiology)
• Drugs which are used to cure human diseases (pharmacology)
• The way in which our form and function is inherited (genetics)
• The processes of development from the fertilised ovum (embryology)
• The natural defences of the body (immunology)
• The structure and function of the brain (neuroscience).
• This degree provides the basis for a career in biomedical research and is also an appropriate first degree if you’re planning to progress to graduate medical or paramedical degrees.

Human Pathology

Examine how and why diseases develop, what happens to our bodies when we’re ill and the effects of diseases. Pathology involves the study of diseases, such as infections and cancers, at the genetic, molecular, cellular and organ levels.

Combine your interest in mathematics with engineering. Choose from a wide range of engineering specialisations, from traditional disciplines such as civil engineering and electrical engineering, through to those tailored to modern challenges, such as renewable energy engineering. Pairing this with the advanced mathematics degree allows you to gain a deep understanding of the mathematics and statistics that underpin all engineering. In this double degree, you will have access to advanced facilities combined with innovative teaching.

The engineering degree is designed to equip you for a career as a professional engineer, where you will get the chance to apply yourself to engineering design and enquiry projects, professional engineering practice, engineering and technical management, and research. The advanced mathematics component involves advanced coursework with an honours-level research project.

The Bachelor of Science/Law double degree will equip you with the transferable skills sought after by employers in law, science and a range of other industries. Through a balance of theory and practical experiences, you’ll develop excellent analytical skills, scholarly research, oral and written communication skills and a commitment to personal and professional development, ethical practice and social responsibility. You’ll learn to approach complex legal issues stemming from new industries and new social expectations as part of a progressive law degree.

As part of the Bachelor of Science, you’ll access state-of-the-art scientific technology and build extensive knowledge in a scientific field. With 26 majors to choose from, you can specialise in anything from neuroscience to biotechnology or psychology.

The Master of Applied Economics is a flexible two-year degree designed to prepare professional economists. You'll graduate with advanced knowledge and practical skills in economics, with broad expertise in research and strong communication skills.

A practicum is available for students seeking work experience in the field of economics. This program is delivered face-to-face and online to allow for most flexibility and accommodate various learning styles.

The UNSW Master of Development Studies is a two-year, full-time interactive degree that provides specialist studies in international development at the local, national and global level. This degree takes a participatory approach to the philosophy of human rights, social justice and community development.

You’ll learn the framework to understand the complexities of the geopolitical, economic, social, ethical, and cultural contexts in which development takes place. The Bachelor of Criminology & Criminal Justice/Law is a five-year double degree that will provide you with the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications of professional importance to the public sector, criminal justice system, community service, business and legal practice.

In this degree, you’ll develop excellent analytical skills, a capacity for scholarly research, effective oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to personal and professional development, ethical practice and social responsibility. Pairing your study of Law with Criminology & Criminal Justice will allow you to develop an understanding of historical and current issues, including drug policy, sexual and alcohol-related violence, organised crime and Indigenous mass incarceration, from different perspectives. You'll learn about key criminal justice institutions including the police, courts and prison, and their impact on the community.
