Everything we use is made of materials, yet only a handful of these materials occur naturally. All the rest have been microscopically engineered originally by nature, but increasingly by materials engineers/scientists.

Materials science is the foundation for creating high-performance materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. In this degree, you’ll learn about developing high-performance materials that are lighter, greener and stronger – for use in every aspect of technology. You’ll also develop the theoretical and practical skills to improve materials for aerospace, automotive, biomedical and information technology-based industries.

This degree builds a foundation in mathematics, chemistry and physics, before moving into the fundamental properties and structures of materials. You’ll investigate aspects of engineering design and the application and selection of materials before concentrating on a research project to sharpen your experimental and analytical skills.

This multidisciplinary degree uses a combination of lectures, practical hands-on laboratory work and research and design projects. It also incorporates components of professional communication, management aspects of business and industrial training.

The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) is a four-year degree when studied full time, with an integrated honours component.

The Master of Global Health (Extension)/Master of Health Leadership and Management double degree is an innovative approach to postgraduate health education, enabling you to specialise in both global health and health management and complete a research project in global health. This double degree meets a well-recognised need to strengthen public health, health leadership and health management capacities within resource-constrained settings in international and global contexts.

Bioinformatics is where computing and the life sciences meet. It involves the development of technologies to work with and manage the huge volumes of genetic information being generated.

Bioinformatics is at the convergence of computing and the life sciences, and involves the development of technologies for storing, extracting, organising, analysing, interpreting and using the growing volume of genetic information being generated.The need to process and analyse vast amounts of information requires advances in both software technologies and hardware architectures.

In this degree you'll learn the foundation disciplines of bioinformatics, which includes biology (biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics), computing (algorithms, databases and programming), mathematics and statistics. You'll gain the skills to design and implement software for activities such as identifying the genes affected in specific cancer types.
