This double degree is for students who want to pursue a career in the related disciplines of materials engineering and chemical engineering. Where materials scientists concern themselves mainly with the underlying science of high-performance materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, chemical engineers focus on turning raw materials into useful, marketable products from fertilisers, drugs and plastics, to paper, paint and food. By studying both degrees, you will learn foundational theory and practical skills that will put you at the forefront of development and innovation.

UNSW’s Bachelor of Commerce/Arts is a double degree that will equip you with business experience and expertise, combined with the creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills that come with an arts degree. The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been designed with consultation from industry to set you up for lifelong employability. Mining Engineering studies the safe, economic and environmentally responsible recovery, processing, marketing and financial management of mineral resources. Mining Engineering is about the extraction of natural minerals from the earth and the processing of those minerals into more user-friendly forms with minimal environmental impact.

At UNSW, we focus on the long-term health of the sector through research in Sustainable Mining Practices. Our school produces internationally acclaimed research, working closely with industry to provide innovative solutions. This research feeds directly into our degrees to maintain the Australian mining industry’s comparative advantage of cost-competitive, safe and environmentally responsible operations.

This degree provides a comprehensive understanding of how complex mining systems work together to service the global need for minerals. It will give you a solid foundation in fundamental engineering principles and essential elements of mining, like geomechanics, ventilation, mine planning and mineral processing. To get you work ready, you'll apply these skills through 60 days of approved industry training.

The UNSW Bachelor of Fine Arts/Engineering (Honours) is a double-degree that can be completed in 5.7 years full-time, or the part-time equivalent.  

Through the Bachelor of Fine Arts, you'll explore your artistic ignite your creativity and explore your practice, build technical skills and knowledge, and learn from experts in practical and theoretical classes. Chemical Product Engineering is the new frontier for chemical engineers. It incorporates the technical and entrepreneurial skills needed to innovate, develop and design new chemical and consumer products for large and small businesses.

Chemical Engineering has an emphasis on product design and development. A major focus in this field is on new materials and breakthrough technologies that overcome high costs and scarcity to create value-adding solutions. Chemical Engineers work in areas from cosmetics, drugs and solar cells to advance biomedical devices by identifying customer needs and creating products that meet those needs.

You'll build on the study of chemical and physical sciences and processes to create the types of products that can be commercialised in a number of fields such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agricultural chemicals and foods. Medical science is the foundation that the practice of medicine is built on. This degree delves into how the human body functions and responds to disease and drug treatments. It incorporates facets of several scientific disciplines to provide you with an extensive understanding of the human body.

The Bachelor of Medical Science explores:

• The structure and chemistry of the cells that make up living organisms (cell & molecular biology and biochemistry)
• The structure and function of the human body (anatomy and physiology)

Molecular Biology

Molecular Biology is a marriage of biochemistry, microbiology and cell biology. It will have an increasingly important role to play in many aspects of modern medicine, genetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology and genomics.
