The UNSW Master of Development Studies is a two-year, full-time interactive degree that provides specialist studies in international development at the local, national and global level. This degree takes a participatory approach to the philosophy of human rights, social justice and community development.

You’ll learn the framework to understand the complexities of the geopolitical, economic, social, ethical, and cultural contexts in which development takes place. You’ll learn from a team of academics at the front line of international development practice both globally and in Australia, and benefit from real-world experience and expertise.

The Bachelor of Media at UNSW unlocks the specialist expertise, self-knowledge, creative thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to make an impact as a media professional, or simply set you up as a more aware professional to succeed in your second and third job, not just your first.

You’ll have the opportunity to tailor a degree to your specific interests. Specialise in cinema studies, communications and journalism, media studies, public relations & advertising, or screen production. Here, you’ll develop practical job skills as well as conceptual, strategic, creative, and critical capabilities to help you make your impact in the exciting and fast-changing media industries.

Cinema studies
What makes cinematic experiences move our hearts and minds so deeply? Discover how cinema can affect us powerfully, through the creative combination of various methods, techniques, narratives, and messages. 

This specialisation will develop your skills in critical thinking, researching, planning, and presenting conceptual projects. You’ll understand the intersection between entertainment, politics, and aesthetics, with a critical exploration of political cinema, cult film, experimental and mainstream movies.

Hone your critical voice while developing skills in close and careful film analysis and deepen your understanding of the intersections between popular entertainment, politics, and aesthetics. 

You’ll have opportunities to apply your knowledge to practical industry experiences such as collaborating on a short film, running a film festival, and doing an industry internship.

Upon graduating, you’ll be ready for a career in creative and cultural industries, including film journalism, festival programming, distribution, advertising, policy, and education.

UNSW’s Bachelor of Commerce/Arts is a double degree that will equip you with business experience and expertise, combined with the creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills that come with an arts degree. Both degrees offer flexibility, allowing you to shape your degree to match your ambitions and interests.

The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been designed with consultation from industry to set you up for lifelong employability. By combining your BCom with a Bachelor of Arts, you can choose from a diverse range of majors and subjects in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The Bachelor of Social Sciences/Law is a 5-year double degree program that provides the opportunity to obtain two degrees of professional importance to the public sector, community service, business and law practice. In addition, you’ll have the option to work towards a research career in a variety of disciplines.

Your fundamental knowledge and skills in law and in-depth understanding of social science specialisations will build your capacity to contribute to real world and impactful social, political and cultural change. The Master of City Planning at UNSW is a two-year, professionally accredited postgraduate degree that allows you to bring experience from previous study to launch a career in urban and regional planning.

City planning is an exciting, varied and progressive profession that plays a pivotal role in decisions shaping the future of cities and regions. Through a career in planning, you’ll improve lives by designing cities that are sustainable, equitable, healthy and inspiring.

As part of the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture you’ll join a uniquely interdisciplinary and supportive community. Financial technology (FinTech) (Major)
In the past few years, financial technology has been a hot topic at industry conferences both in Australia and worldwide. This major will get you in on the ground floor of this rapidly evolving area. When you study FinTech, you’ll learn about these innovative technologies, as you also also learn the foundations of problem-solving for business success – setting you up with a set of skills that you can adapt in diverse roles and industries.

UNSW’s Master of Environmental Management is a two-year full-time postgraduate degree that will prepare you for a career that tackles our biggest ecological challenges through change-leadership and sustainability.

In this master’s degree, you’ll learn to think about environmental problems through a number of lenses, forming a deep understanding of the socio-political influences that drive them.  In addition to the program’s key focus on conceptual tools, you will also develop experiential and practical skills to inform ethical and restorative sustainability leadership in a range of professional contexts.

 Industrial Design (Major)

When you study Industrial Design at UNSW, you’ll be inspired and challenged to use insightful and strategic product design for the good of people and the planet.

Through practical studio classes and theoretical courses, you’ll explore design thinking and methodologies. With an ethical and sustainable approach, you’ll develop professional design skills in drawing, ideation, making, and prototyping as you learn about manufacturing technology, materials, sustainability, user interaction and more.

As part of our creative Arts, Design & Architecture community, you’ll be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines, gain professional experience, and take advantage of programs that support entrepreneurship and innovation. Through our strong industry links, you’ll be able to gain real-world professional experience and connect with design leaders. As a graduate of Industrial Design, you’ll also be eligible for membership with the Design Institute of Australia (DIA).

When you study a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce you’ll graduate with two separate yet complimentary degrees that will allow you to drive your career further. Combine business problem solving with engineering discoveries to deliver better solutions to society.

You’ll choose a major from both Engineering and Business which means your degree can be tailored to your professional aspirations and interests. Combine Finance and Civil Engineering or Business Analytics and Computer Engineering or even International Business and Chemical Engineering.

In this degree you’ll apply yourself to engineering design, problem solving, research projects, professional engineering practice and technical management with the ability to recognise and analyse current global business challenges and opportunities.
