Why are some countries developing so quickly while others seem left behind? Global development looks at the impact of change across social, political, and economic environments. Explore issues from urbanisation to widening disparity, environmental threats, and the dominance of communication technologies. Learn the many ways we can create practical and positive change at local, national, and global levels.

Mining Engineering studies the safe, economic and environmentally responsible recovery, processing, marketing and financial management of mineral resources. Mining Engineering is about the extraction of natural minerals from the earth and the processing of those minerals into more user-friendly forms with minimal environmental impact.

At UNSW, we focus on the long-term health of the sector through research in Sustainable Mining Practices. Our school produces internationally acclaimed research, working closely with industry to provide innovative solutions. This research feeds directly into our degrees to maintain the Australian mining industry’s comparative advantage of cost-competitive, safe and environmentally responsible operations.

This degree provides a comprehensive understanding of how complex mining systems work together to service the global need for minerals. It will give you a solid foundation in fundamental engineering principles and essential elements of mining, like geomechanics, ventilation, mine planning and mineral processing. To get you work ready, you'll apply these skills through 60 days of approved industry training.

The Master of Actuarial Studies (Extension) equips you with the data analytics and quantitative risk management training for success in an actuarial career, or a career in finance.

The extension program adds four courses to the Master of Actuarial Studies. This allows you to complete the professionally accredited courses to become an actuary, as well as to broaden your knowledge through electives in actuarial studies, risk management, business, or options in mathematics and in computer science. The program is accredited by the Actuaries Institute.

The program has also earned the University-Earned Credit (UEC) program status for Financial Mathematics (FM) exam and Statistics for Risk Modelling (SRM) exam. This UEC program facilitates the pathway for students who pursue the Society of Actuaries (SOA) profession by providing opportunities to earn credit for SOA exams.

You’ll learn to apply advanced analytical techniques, deliver highly valued data analytics, and actionable insights. You’ll also develop a specialist quantitative skill set in actuarial models, financial mathematics, probability, machine learning / artificial intelligence analytics, and commerce.

The UNSW Master of Public Relations & Advertising/Master of Design combines two postgraduate degrees over two or three years full-time. You’ll gain a unique combination of strategic communication skills and design practice, as well as a deep conceptual knowledge of media theory and design research.

The Master of Public Relations and Advertising/Design dual award is ideal for industry professionals from advertising or design seeking to advance their career, as well as career-changers wanting to enter vibrant and rapidly evolving industries. Graduates of this program are well-rounded communication professionals known for creativity, design thinking and entrepreneurship. 

This double degree is for students who want to pursue a career in the related disciplines of materials engineering and chemical engineering. Where materials scientists concern themselves mainly with the underlying science of high-performance materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, chemical engineers focus on turning raw materials into useful, marketable products from fertilisers, drugs and plastics, to paper, paint and food. The Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Media is a four-year double degree that shows you how to enlighten others with creative thinking and persuasive communications. Learn strategies to interest, inform, and inspire others while challenging conventions and designing new solutions to old problems.
