Anatomy and Physiology

The Anatomy and Physiology Major within the Bachelor of Medical Science will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the basic sciences underpinning human health, wellbeing and its application to human disease. This major provides a strong focus on the anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to health and disease. The degree also allows for enrolment in a variety of minors (with choices such as Microbiology, Environmental Health and Infectious Diseases) or free electives, so students can design their own learning journey. Heritage and Tourism

In a highly mobile world (migration, tourism, media and communications, travel and transport) and in contemporary life where the preservation of historical and natural environments present as one of the major challenges facing all societies, heritage has become a touchstone for social and cultural identity, our understanding of modernity, peace and development, our senses of citizenship, custodianship and community.

This major introduces contemporary heritage issues and provides an in-depth understanding of tourism as a social phenomenon. It enables a critical examination of the relationship between heritage and tourism in number of settings within Australia (including Indigenous Australia) and internationally.

This major covers fundamental information security knowledge and security protocols from basic cryptography algorithms to their applications in computer systems and networked systems. Criminology and Criminal Justice

This criminology major offers students the opportunity to study crime and criminal justice in a critical way that particularly stresses social and cultural definitions of criminality and the reactions to it.

Western’s Bachelor of Paramedicine gives you the skills and knowledge you need to be a paramedic and play an integral role in the health system, responding to emergencies involving patients with a range of health problems in diverse settings. When you graduate, you will have the required skills to work in an ambulance service, the private paramedical industry or the defence forces.

The Bachelor of Paramedicine has a strong evidence-based focus and uses innovative blended learning and assessment strategies, together with clinical placements, to develop high-level, practical and clinical decision-making skills.

You will be learning in our innovative teaching facility, including simulation rooms, debrief rooms, and an immersive simulation lab with control room.

In second and third year, you’ll be given three months of supervised clinical experience with an emergency ambulance service in rural or metropolitan NSW or the ACT. You’ll also have a chance to take up an international clinical placement, or short placements in the private paramedicine industry, mental health services, and community and primary healthcare.

This program prepares you for out-of-hospital care to patients of all ages, dealing with health complaints that range from minor to critical.
