The Bachelor of Accounting holds triple accreditation with CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ), and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). Depending on your majors, you’ll also be eligible to become a member of the Financial Planning Association or register with the Tax Practitioners Board as a tax agent.

Financial Planning and Taxation

The Financial Planning and Taxation Major is available to participants enrolled in the Bachelor of Accounting. The specialised subjects in this major analyse contemporary issues relevant to financial planning and taxation using case studies and discussion.

The subjects is designed to meet the requirements for admission to the CFP program of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) for those seeking a career in that profession.

This major satisfies the accreditation requirements of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Completion of this major also meets the RG146 generic knowledge requirements, specialist knowledge requirements and skills requirements as they currently stand.

This degree focuses on the science that underpins physical activity and exercise, and how it can be used to design, implement and evaluate exercise programs. Throughout your study, you will gain valuable practical experience while having access to state-of-the-art facilities, dedicated exercise and sport science labs, and sports venues.

In this program, you will learn how to work with people from a range of fitness levels and ages. This includes high-performance through general health and fitness, rehabilitation and management of chronic disease through exercise.

Areas of study you can choose from include biometrics, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, motor control and sports psychology. This program will also give you the professional skills you need to deliver high-quality care, with 140 hours of work placements. Biology

This major provides students with a broad knowledge base of biology from the molecular world to global ecosystem science with a focus on the sustainability of the natural world. Students will have the opportunity to develop discipline knowledge alongside scientific laboratory and inquiry based skills. This double degree provides you with the practical skills and knowledge required to excel in the highly marketable career paths of both construction management and law. The Bachelor of Construction Management Studies will equip students to develop expertise essential to Construction and Project Managers, Building and Quantity Supervisors, Estimators, and Building Researchers which lead to professional accreditation.

The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills.

The Bachelor of Laws provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will also develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.

Construction Management Studies at Western mixes work experience with study resulting in theoretical, practical and hands-on knowledge that is greatly valued in the construction industry. Your studies will include practical experiments in building technology such as acoustics, heat flow through a building, corrosion of materials, concerete testing and more.

The skills you develop will then be used during your 1,200 hours of approved practical experience during the duration of the program.

 Biomedical science

Biomedical science is a broad field that aims to understand the biology that underpins human and animal health and disease. In this major you will study the structure and function of biological organisms from the molecular to the systemic. The coursework in this major will give you an integrated foundation in physiology and anatomy, along with biochemistry, cell biology and genetics. This major will equip you with core discipline knowledge from which you can embark on unlimited career choices in or outside of a laboratory - from hospital pathology to biomedical engineering, medical technology and beyond.

Students must maintain a grade point average of 5 or above to remain in the program. Those who do not maintain this average will be transferred to the Bachelor of Medical Science.

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program is designed for high achieving law students who wish to undertake an extended level of study and research. There is no direct entry into the Honours program. Entry is by application only following completion of at least 160 credit points of Law study and by meeting other specified criteria.The Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) (Honours) program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills. Western’s Bachelor of Paramedicine gives you the skills and knowledge you need to be a paramedic and play an integral role in the health system, responding to emergencies involving patients with a range of health problems in diverse settings. When you graduate, you will have the required skills to work in an ambulance service, the private paramedical industry or the defence forces.

The Bachelor of Paramedicine has a strong evidence-based focus and uses innovative blended learning and assessment strategies, together with clinical placements, to develop high-level, practical and clinical decision-making skills.

You will be learning in our innovative teaching facility, including simulation rooms, debrief rooms, and an immersive simulation lab with control room.

In second and third year, you’ll be given three months of supervised clinical experience with an emergency ambulance service in rural or metropolitan NSW or the ACT. You’ll also have a chance to take up an international clinical placement, or short placements in the private paramedicine industry, mental health services, and community and primary healthcare.

This program prepares you for out-of-hospital care to patients of all ages, dealing with health complaints that range from minor to critical.
