The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program is designed for students with interests in learning to address humanity’s issues and challenges through the development and deployment of technical solutions.

Sustainability

Human society is facing ever increasing challenges from changing climate, expanding populations and industrial development. Traditional approaches to solve environmental problems needs rethinking and should consider circular economy, life cycle thinking, climate smartness, digitisation. In this Major, students assess various challenges in provision of water, food, infrastructure and energy then propose design solutions using holistic, futuristic and sustainable technologies and strategies. Through hands-on, real-life projects, students explore solutions that integrate technical, technological (IoT), social, cultural, geographical, regulatory and ethical factors. This major will benefit students aiming for careers such as Environmental Engineer/Scientist/Consultant, Natural Resources Manager, Waste Engineer/Manger/ Consultant, and Sustainability Engineer/ Manager/ Consultant.

Our Graduate Diploma in Interpreting is suited to fluent bilinguals seeking high level skills necessary to practice as professional interpreters.

All practical components are informed by the theories of Interpreting, Translation, related disciplines and the results of current research.

Subject to demand, the languages available are Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish or Vietnamese.

Mechatronics

Mechatronics (and robotics) provides the skills necessary for the design of smart machines of all types: cruise control in automobiles, pilotless spacecraft, automated factories and medical telerobotics. The program, accompanied by an extensive and integrated hands-on laboratory program, is essentially concerned with the design of intelligent mechanical systems and automation, and includes the study of robotics, computer control, automated manufacturing, microprocessor applications and machine design. Graduates in the program acquire the combined skills of mechanical and computer/electrical engineering that are needed in leading-edge industries such as aerospace systems, the car industry, automation and robotic applications, biomedical engineering, laser systems, and building materials manufacture.

Mechanical

In addition to providing training in conventional mechanical engineering subjects, the program structure introduces students to subjects of study that address sustainability including sustainable design and sustainable energy engineering. Graduates will be well equipped with broad-based skills that meet the demand of Australian industries and are conscious of the need to promote sustainable design and practices. Examples include mechanical and machinery design; manufacturing; energy production; and marketing and management activities.
