Biology

This major provides students with a broad knowledge base of biology from the molecular world to global ecosystem science with a focus on the sustainability of the natural world. The major allows students to use the learning beside a range of other diverse majors and is especially applicable to students who are considering teaching as a career. Students will have the opportunity to develop discipline knowledge alongside scientific laboratory and inquiry based skills. The major also includes developing strong communication and critical thinking skills, essential for the future role of biology graduates.

The Master of Laws (LLM) provides law and non-law graduates with a flexible postgraduate opportunity to develop advanced, integrated and contemporary knowledge in one or more areas of legal study. The LLM is a sophisticated degree with substantial consideration of relevant international, professional and transdisciplinary aspects of the law which will enhance student career expertise and prospects.

The program develops advanced legal research and writing skills and enhances the ability of students to critically evaluate complex legal issues within a global context. All students will have the opportunity to apply their legal knowledge and skills by conducting independent research and by engaging in analytical studies on specialised topics in the student’s areas of interest. The program offers an invaluable opportunity for law graduates without experience in a legal environment to be supervised and mentored by experienced legal practitioners through a legal placement subject. There is no tuition fee associated with this subject and the subject may be undertaken at the same time as the academic subjects.

This double degree program is designed in recognition of the globalising nature of the information technology industry.

In the IT area, the program allows students to develop skills in application development, program design, systems analysis and design, networks, web-design, and the implementation of technology.

Applied Physics

This major provides a deep knowledge of physics and its applications. While also developing a grounding in mathematics and strong computing knowledge, the
physics major assures understanding of the concepts, tools and techniques of physics including the interfaces where physics contributes to other scientific disciplines, and the use of physics in wider intellectual and social contexts.

Graduates of this degree can look forward to career opportunities as a medical laboratory scientist, forensic scientist, in government and related industries, in scientific and technical management or can pursue a research or secondary teaching career.

Students must maintain a grade point average of 5 or above to remain in the program. Those who do not maintain this average will be transferred to the Bachelor of Science.

This double degree program equips you with a degree in science, combined with a good understanding of basic business issues.

You can design your own academic program within the Bachelor of Science program structure, which must include a Science major. This can be combined with a Business major from a variety of disciplines.

Economics

The Economics major provides a broad pluralist perspective on fundamental aspects of relationships between individuals, firms, institutions and countries. Students will learn how economies function and how public policy and the way organisations behave affect diverse social, economic and environmental problems. Students are introduced to a wide array of competing economic theories, so that they are critically informed about the ways in which they can transform the world. A major in Economics prepares students to be active participants in addressing the wide range of problems faced by governments, social organisations and the business community in the domestic and international economies. Students who study economics can expect to develop their analytical and problem solving skills and to be intellectually challenged, whether they view the discipline as providing specific vocational skills or as an area of academic and intellectual interest to them. The Indigenous Australian Studies major addresses the cultural, historical, social and economic issues affecting Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and relationships.

The Bachelor of Business degree gives you the knowledge to create a career as a business professional. The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. The aim of the Master of Nursing (Professional Studies) is to provide students who hold an undergraduate nursing degree with the theoretical knowledge and critical thinking skills to prepare them for advanced practice in the clinical setting.

The focus of the Master of Nursing is to provide the necessary skills for Registered Nurses to meet their professional goals in a clinical or research setting. This includes studying cultural and social diversity in health care, evidence based health care and leadership in clinical practice. Our students are provided the option to choose a major in either clinical leadership, clinical teaching, aged care, primary health care or research studies, preparing you for career progression in your chosen field.

The Graduate Diploma in Psychology is designed for those seeking entry into the profession as a provisional psychologist.

The Graduate Diploma in Psychology is an accredited undergraduate fourth year program and is an alternative method to fourth year honours. This program is for eligible students seeking to pursue training pathways leading to provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia; or progress to Higher Degree Research in psychology.

You’ll be part of an active research culture that broaches a range of theoretical and epistemological approaches in both applied and pure psychological research.
