Overview

In the Electrical Engineering Technology Ontario College Advanced Diploma program, you use state-of-the-art facilities to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to enter the electrical engineering field. This program is the continuation of the Electrical Engineering Technician program, and is open to students who already have an Algonquin College Electrical Engineering Technician Ontario College Diploma and meet the admission requirements.

Through a series of theory courses and extensive practical labs, you learn skills specific to becoming an Electrical Engineering Technologist. You expand your knowledge base of the following:

  • Computer applications
  • Machinery
  • AutoCAD
  • telecommunications
  • Electronics
  • Instrumentation and robotics

Take on a complex project, either in partnership with an industry client or based on your own research interest, and use project management skills learned in the program to analyze and solve it. Complete your project by creating deliverables, monitoring and controlling project resources, and presenting results both orally and through written presentations.

Students also have the option to gain real-world experience through a paid co-operative education (co-op) work term (see Additional Information for more details). Please note that places in the co-op version of the program are subject to availability.

Electives during this program help you specialize in either automation or utilities.

OACETT (Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists) recognizes this program as meeting the academic requirements for certification in the Certified Technician (C.Tech) category. While a student, you are encouraged to register as an Associate member of OACETT.

Graduate Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The program lasts for two years and is delivered over 62 consecutive weeks and offers the students with the required technical skills and knowledge to carry out diagnostic procedures in the role of a Canadian and/or American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and produce sonographic images.

The theoretical courses, the practical exposure, extensive clinical experience and simulation allows the students to acquire the ability to produce quality images of the internal structures of a human like the pelvic and abdominal organs, carotid arteries, superficial structures, fetal imaging and lower extremity venous imaging of the human body. The students work within an inter-professional healthcare team to deliver diagnostic and therapeutic skills and safe patient assessment consistent with best practice standards for diagnostic medical sonography.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is fully accredited, and on the successful completion of the national certification exams, a student is credentialed as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and/or Canadian Generalist Sonographer 

All the international applicants who are eligible for the program need to complete preparatory courses (4-months in duration): Introduction to Canadian Health Studies (ICHS) and the students who complete the induction will then proceed to the original health program. Algonquin’s Introduction to Canadian Health Studies (ICHS) is curated to assist the international students in integrating into Canadian health studies as well as be successful in their future employment.

This four-year honours degree program provides students with a foundation in digital storytelling and digital technology, allowing them to effectively craft a message for a target audience and to create a communications plan to disseminate this message. Graduates of advertising, public relations and marketing diploma and advanced diploma programs may be awarded advanced standing.

Students gain theoretical and practical knowledge regarding media channel selection, digital storytelling, marketing communications research, digital analytics and global communications. The program utilizes case studies and fieldwork to provide opportunities for students to practice the newly-acquired skills in a real-world context. Additionally, students conduct marketing research, utilize digital analytics and marketing research to make decisions and craft communications plans for clients within the classroom setting.

Co-op Information
The proposed Bachelor of Digital Media and Marketing Communications includes two co-op work terms, one optional and one mandatory. The mandatory co-op work term must be completed successfully to qualify for graduation. Both work terms are scheduled for the summer semester (May - August) when potential employers/supervisors are likely to have the greatest need for additional help. These work terms will be fourteen (14) weeks in length.

The first optional co-op work term follows the second year of study. It is expected that after four (4) semesters, students will have gained the foundational knowledge to make a reasonable contribution in the workplace with supervision. The first co-op work term will help students expand their understanding of potential areas of specialty within the industry.

The second mandatory co-op work term follows the third year of study. After six semesters, students will be able to function with a sense of autonomy and demonstrate a greater level of contribution than possible in the optional first co-op work term. This second mandatory co-op work term will help in building practical work experience and will act as an educational tool in subsequent semesters.

The three-year Mechanical Engineering Technology Ontario College Advanced Diploma program teaches you to apply scientific and engineering principles to solve mechanical engineering problems in a variety of industries.

Through a series of classroom-based courses and extensive practical labs, you acquire skills specific to mechanical engineering technologists, including:

  • Modifying and improving engineering designs using conventional and computer-based methods
