Dive deep into fundamental agriculture topics, including crop production and protection, livestock production and environmental considerations directly related to agriculture. Develop additional knowledge in communications, customer service, sales and marketing, and management. Round out your analytical and critical thinking skills by learning the technological applications of GIS (geographical information systems) and GPS (global positioning systems).

Assiniboine even has a connection to the Canadian Forces, where you can be accredited as a Weapon Engineering Technician.

Looking for a creative outlet? The Interactive Media Arts two-year diploma program is your chance to indulge your creativity and excel in a hands-on career in television, radio or film. Our experienced instructors push you to develop your narrative craft, tackle news reporting, and master technical skills in audio, video and multimedia to broaden your mind and prepare you for the workforce.

Hone your craft across a wide range of audiovisual environments. The media specialization teaches you to write, announce, shoot, record, edit and produce items for broadcast, cable and audio/visual departments. This flexible comprehensive program will prepare you for entry-level broadcast roles within a team. Get on-thespot formative feedback to improve your skills.

Be a college radio personality, produce documentary films, do live television broadcasts on our Westman Newsline television show, and push yourself to find creative ways to showcase your ideas. We offer an eight-week work practicum at the end of your second year of study to help you build on your strengths and start making industry connections before graduation. Our past partners include Bell Media, CBC, CTV, Global Television and Westman Communications Group.

The Business Administration program is designed with the entrepreneurial spirit in mind. Learn how to negotiate, invest, sell, market and manage people in this economy. Then, connect the dots within a strategic approach. This program will prepare you to administer and manage all types and sizes of businesses. In the second year, students specialize in one of the following areas:

• Accounting
• Financial Services
• Human Resource Management
• Marketing

These different specializations allow you to focus your career path during your second year. There are 60 credits of required courses that are common to all specializations (typically scheduled in year one for on campus students). Applicants declare their specialization at the time of applying to the program.

You may choose to complete your first year of any specialization at either the Parkland (Dauphin) or Victoria Avenue East campus (Brandon), however only the second-year of the Accounting and Human Resource Management specializations are available at our Parkland campus. All four specializations are offered in full at Assiniboine's Victoria Avenue East campus.

Financial Services Specialization

What do you get when you pair Assiniboine’s eight-month Accounting advanced diploma with a paid four-month co-op work placement? This year-long Accounting (with Co-op) advanced diploma! Excel because of hands-on learning opportunities, but gain even more confidence when you work side-by-side with accounting professionals for sixteen weeks during tax season. Set yourself up for success with this unique blend of classroom learning and work experience.

Develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and make yourself an attractive prospect for any business or accounting firm. Work towards your completion of the prerequisites for the Chartered Professional Accountants Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) accounting designation administered by the Chartered Professional Accountants.

A four-month, paid co-operative work placement in rural Manitoba during tax season gives you real-world experience you can take with you after graduation. Your four-month co-op work placement may be in a smaller community outside of Brandon. Students may be required to relocate for their co-op work experience placements and travel is necessary.

Find opportunities in public accounting firms, banks, trust companies, accounting and internal auditing departments, industrial firms, federal, provincial or municipal offices, school divisions, parochial schools, tribal councils, non-profit organizations and health care institutions, as well as in owner-managed businesses as business/office managers.

If you have compassion and respect for people of all ages and cultures, then being a health care aide will be a rewarding choice.
