The internet (IOT) is the physical network of devices, appliances, vehicles and other items that integrate and connect to exchange data and make our lives run smoother, easier and more efficiently. In this program, you’ll be at the centre of creating and supporting it.

Learn to support the design, development and repair of communication systems, such as voice, video, data, wi-fi and Bluetooth, through this accredited two-year program. You will graduate with the skills necessary to create, manufacture, install and analyze different types of communication technologies.

There are industry opportunities for you through our Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers student branch, Cisco Networking Systems partnership and CTAB accreditation. Assiniboine even has a connection to the Canadian Forces, where you can be accredited as a Weapon Engineering Technician.

Find employment opportunities in fields like computeraided design, electronic design and repair, computer programming, network design, communications installation or design. In recent years, almost all of our students were offered jobs within nine months of graduation.

This 11-month certificate prepares you for a cutting-edge career in Canada’s growing meat processing industry. Learn all aspects of the trade, including nutrition, safety, tools, workplace values and essential communication skills. Enjoy a newly built, modern teaching lab with all the trimmings. Develop skills in curing and smoking for all types of animal protein, including poultry, beef, pork, goat and lamb.

Do you agree with raising animals for meat and preparing them for human consumption? Do you like to work with your hands, enjoy physical labour, and are passionate about delivering high-quality goods and services? If yes, then this is the program for you. Expectations include having good manual dexterity, cooperating with others in a team environment, and being able to work in refrigerated environments for long periods. Small class sizes, dedicated instructors and industry connections will prepare you for a fulfilling career in meat cutting.

Connect with local employers through a 12-week work practicum. If you meet all employer criteria, you may make up to $6,900 during your work-integrated learning experience; plus, take advantage of additional employment opportunities while enrolled in this full-time program.

Rest assured, there is no shortage of work in this sector, and demand is high for skilled workers. After you graduate, you may be eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit; if Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) grants the permit, you may benefit from Assiniboine’s partnerships with industry employers. Your work experience, combined with your credentials and personal interest, may lead to career opportunities such as retail meat cutter, retail meat manager, plant manager, production supervisor and/or sales manager.

Passion for the outdoors makes you a great candidate for a career in natural resources. This exciting program brings together natural resources, technology and the environment in an agricultural context. Understand the interconnection between our water and the land. Learn how to protect, manage, sustain and conserve natural habitats for wildlife and humans.

With Land and Water Management, you will often be out in the field, examining key features of the prairie agro-ecological landscape. Become skilled at monitoring and evaluating the quality of rural land and water resources, and at managing activities so that those resources are used sustainably. You will use environmental monitoring equipment to study water, land and air conditions.

Consider a career as a water manager, habitat specialist or environmental technician. You may also find a position in research, management, consulting and administration of sustainable land use practices. If you like working with science and are concerned about the environment and the quality of our natural resources, Land and Water Management is perfect for you!

The program’s four-month paid co-operative work experience will help you with real-world experience, create connections within industry and become confident in your abilities. Once you graduate, you will find yourself ready for exciting and challenging roles in industry including conservation districts, agricultural organizations and all levels of government across the Prairies and beyond.

Prepare for a rewarding career promoting the development of young children with our Early Childhood Education program. Help guide children as they grow physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially.

What you help children learn and experience through their early years will impact their entire future. With this two-year diploma program, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality early learning and child care to young children. This program is provincially accredited by the Child Care Qualifications and Training Committee (CCQTC).

Working with others is a large part of what creatives do. This program will have you constantly collaborating and connecting with your peers, instructors and the community at large. Work at an in-house creative shop where you’ll design aesthetically pleasing and purposeful high-end graphical content that solves real-world client problems. It’s not all Photoshop and Illustrator in this program. If you have compassion and respect for people of all ages and cultures, then being a health care aide will be a rewarding choice. 

Do you have what it takes to help those who need it most? Learn practical skills to care for patients and to communicate in a clinical setting. Help patients with their well-being and assist in managing their health care environment.

The two-year Legal Administration diploma is for the students who want to prepare for a career in justice, law or real estate and incorporates procedural knowledge of Canadian legal processes in private and public law, comprehensive technical vocabulary, legal transcription in police offices and courts and higher lever administrative training. Besides, the students also learn how to chair meetings, take effective minutes and the PClaw Software.

Develop your skills in legal terminology, Microsoft Office Suite, customer service and the creation of industry documents that today’s employers desire. Prepare for a stimulating career in law, justice or real estate with this two-year diploma. In your work placement, you will craft your ideal professional portfolio and be given the work experience that employers need. Assiniboine has connections with Manitoba Justice, Family Services, the Property Registry and Manitoba Agriculture Services in addition to many private law firms. Explore an abundance of career opportunities through site visits and your final work placement. Connect with those working in industry. Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to visit a number of organizations including the Brandon Police Service, Child and Family Services, Manitoba Courts, the City of Brandon, private legal firms and real estate agencies.

Be prepared to work in professional services, legal offices, court systems, law enforcement agencies, city and rural municipality offices, mortgage companies and real estate agencies. Careers for graduates include legal transcriptionist, executive assistant, customer service representative, office manager, legal secretary and records control specialist.

The Business Administration program is designed with the entrepreneurial spirit in mind. Learn how to negotiate, invest, sell, market and manage people in this economy. Then, connect the dots within a strategic approach. This program will prepare you to administer and manage all types and sizes of businesses. In the second year, students specialize in one of the following areas:

• Accounting
• Financial Services
• Human Resource Management
• Marketing

These different specializations allow you to focus your career path during your second year. There are 60 credits of required courses that are common to all specializations (typically scheduled in year one for on campus students). Applicants declare their specialization at the time of applying to the program.

You may choose to complete your first year of any specialization at either the Parkland (Dauphin) or Victoria Avenue East campus (Brandon), however only the second-year of the Accounting and Human Resource Management specializations are available at our Parkland campus. All four specializations are offered in full at Assiniboine's Victoria Avenue East campus.

Financial Services Specialization
Graduates find excellent opportunities in the financial services’ industry as personal banking officers, lending officers (retail and agricultural), investment analysts, stockbrokers, and customer service representatives.

Create powerful messages through audio or visual productions, and develop your passion for television or radio environments. Learn how to communicate compelling stories within any audiovisual production role.

Looking for a creative outlet? The Interactive Media Arts two-year diploma program is your chance to indulge your creativity and excel in a hands-on career in television, radio or film. Our experienced instructors push you to develop your narrative craft, tackle news reporting, and master technical skills in audio, video and multimedia to broaden your mind and prepare you for the workforce.

Hone your craft across a wide range of audiovisual environments. The media specialization teaches you to write, announce, shoot, record, edit and produce items for broadcast, cable and audio/visual departments. This flexible comprehensive program will prepare you for entry-level broadcast roles within a team. Get on-thespot formative feedback to improve your skills.

Be a college radio personality, produce documentary films, do live television broadcasts on our Westman Newsline television show, and push yourself to find creative ways to showcase your ideas.
