Practice your hands-on practical skills taught in modern lab settings and also applied in acute and extended-care health facilities, personal care homes, community agencies and private homes during your clinical placement. You can make a difference in the health care profession as a licensed practical nurse. You will be a valued member of the interdisciplinary team as you use your full scope of practice to experience opportunities in various health care settings.

Be a lifelong learner as you grow in your chosen profession. Continue to learn within your competency as a licensed practical nurse. With a background in practical nursing, opportunities exist to develop special areas of practice, certification and credentials. Develop your skills in servicing, diagnosing and repairing agricultural, heavy duty and transport equipment. Gain practical skills with all types of engines, systems and safety regulations.

This 9-month certificate program gives you the training you need to service agricultural, heavy equipment and transport trucks. Learn the theory of diagnosing and repairing, then get in the shop and put that theory to work operating and fixing the machines.

You will be trained on diesel engines, power trains, and electrical systems, along with learning related shop skills, not to mention important shop and workplace safety. You will also explore the different types of systems that are responsible for electronic and computerized control, monitoring, diesel and gasoline fuel, air-conditioning, hydraulics, steering, suspension and advanced braking, plus equipment service and operation.

You can earn credit as an apprentice or put your skills to work immediately in an agricultural or heavy duty business. You will be ready to take on entry-level roles in industries like construction, agriculture, transport, mining, oil field and logging, with jobs available as technicians in the farm machinery, transport truck and construction equipment sectors. If you register as an apprentice within two years of finishing the program you may receive credit for Level 1 of Agricultural Equipment Technician apprenticeship, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprenticeship, or Truck and Transport Mechanic apprenticeship.

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while you promote social well-being and long-lasting change. The skills you learn in this diploma program will help people and communities address social issues. Work with individuals, groups and communities to develop strategies and programs to proactively address social challenges, including poverty, addiction, abuse and mental health issues. This program, with an Indigenous focus, will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful contribution.

Gain practical skills and knowledge in counselling and interviewing, professional communication and proposal writing while also learning more about Indigenous cultures through hands-on activities and field trips. Through your placements you will explore roles in community health, education and institutional environments. Work on the front lines of social services for provincial, municipal and private agencies. Gain experience in community health centres, justice services, long-term care facilities, social service departments, schools, youth centres, outreach services, addiction centres and mental health services.

The Business Administration program is designed with the entrepreneurial spirit in mind. Learn how to negotiate, invest, sell, market and manage people in this economy. Then, connect the dots within a strategic approach. This program will prepare you to administer and manage all types and sizes of businesses. In the second year, students specialize in one of the following areas:

• Accounting
• Financial Services
• Human Resource Management
• Marketing

These different specializations allow you to focus your career path during your second year. There are 60 credits of required courses that are common to all specializations (typically scheduled in year one for on campus students). Applicants declare their specialization at the time of applying to the program.

You may choose to complete your first year of any specialization at either the Parkland (Dauphin) or Victoria Avenue East campus (Brandon), however only the second-year of the Accounting and Human Resource Management specializations are available at our Parkland campus. All four specializations are offered in full at Assiniboine's Victoria Avenue East campus.

Accounting Specialization
Graduates find opportunities in public accounting firms, banks, trust companies, accounting and internal auditing departments in industrial firms, federal, provincial or municipal offices, school divisions, parochial schools, tribal councils, non-profit organizations and health care institutions, and in owner-managed businesses as business/office managers. Many graduates choose to continue their education.

Modern office environments are automated and complex. Become a valuable employee on all matters related to software, bookkeeping, human resources and communication. Receive a well-rounded skill set that makes you adaptable to change and ready to conquer everyday challenges in the workplace. Your leadership skills will allow you to keep a team focused and productive.

Gain advanced training in office procedures while developing your managerial skills. As a graduate, you will be comfortable balancing the technical requirements of your career with the softer skills of team management and leadership. The Office Management program offers elective study, providing you with the opportunity to customize your credentials in areas of interest.

Our instructors will prepare you as you study towards earning industry-recognized software certifications and professional workplace credentials including Nonviolent Conflict Resolution and WHMIS. You will have the practical skills needed to succeed in such positions as office administrator, office services coordinator or executive assistant.

Are you always asking questions? Do you enjoy telling stories in unique and creative ways? The Media and Communications two-year diploma program gives you the opportunity to excel in a hands-on career in television, radio or film. Learn all facets of the industry and then specialize in what you like best. Our experienced instructors push you to develop your narrative craft, tackle news reporting, and master technical skills. 

Learn how to communicate compelling stories—multiplatform journalism can be found here. Write a story from start to finish, but have the ability to put it into a range of audio and visual formats, including podcasts, documentaries and broadcasts. Develop your passion for television or radio, and hone your craft across a wide range of audiovisual environments. Learn to write, announce, shoot, record, edit and produce. In your final term, focus on an area most interesting to you and develop your niche interest. 

There’s no sitting in a classroom day after day here. Be a college radio personality, produce documentary films, do live television broadcasts on our Westman Newsline television show, and push yourself to find creative ways to showcase your ideas. Every assignment connects you to our broader communities and gives you hands-on opportunities to try new things and gain new skills. During your Capstone project, choose an area of interest and be mentored by a field specialist.

This flexible and comprehensive program will prepare you for entry-level broadcast roles within a team. Graduates have gone on to work with major news and entertainment networks, production houses and digital agencies. An eight-week work practicum at the end of your second year of study helps build on your strengths and gives you the opportunity to make industry connections before graduation. Past practicum partners include Bell Media, CBC, CTV, Global Television and Westman Communications Group.

This two-year program brings you into the kitchen with everything you need to start your culinary career. In and out of the classroom, you will work closely with instructors through industry-based competitions, community projects and events. After graduation, you may be granted Level 1 and 2 towards becoming a Red Seal Chef once you register as an apprentice.

Follow your taste buds to the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts at our North Hill campus in Brandon. Campus grounds overlook the river valley below. The beautiful heritage building features a spacious modern teaching kitchen, culinary theatre and a 60-seat dining room.

You will research and plan menus for buffets, banquets, festivals and other events that you and your team will put on throughout the year. Distinctive ingredients that you help choose will need special culinary touches, and you will learn the techniques you need to bring them to mouth-watering reality.

Use the most modern GIS technologies to solve problems across a range of disciplines. Apply your prior education to work in agriculture, forestry, environmental management or natural resources.

Study emerging visual technologies that extend, replace and enhance our realities (virtual, augmented and mixed reality applications). Learn the fundamentals of programming, both the back-end and front-end development of websites, as well as mobile app development. Create and customize the delivery of web content on desktop computers and mobile platforms.

Our experienced instructors encourage you to develop your digital craft, to learn new and better ways to create interfaces and apps that are impactful, results-oriented and interesting. Gain skills in project management, persuasive communication and proposal writing, as well as in writing, designing, image editing and coding web, mobile, animation and basic game development.

Every assignment in this program has a purpose: constantly create, collaborate and communicate. Work with real-life clients at the in-house creative shop, listening and providing solutions to their business challenges. During your Capstone, choose a project to focus on, and then develop and present an integrated, creative and independent project. In your final year, specialize and develop your expertise in XR Solutions. 

In addition to countless community-based assignments and projects, an eight-week practicum at the end of your program helps connect you to industry contacts. We place students at agencies and companies in Manitoba and across Canada.
