Combining theory and practice, the Early Childhood Education and Development at Bow Valley College prepares the students to work as frontline caregivers or supervisors to young children and families and making a difference in their lives.

The two years full-time ECED program readies the students to provide quality child care, plan emergent play experiences for the children; offers information on program planning, child development, family dynamics and play that equips them to support the healthy development of children via child-centered learning experiences and prepares them to be eligible for the Child Development Supervisor certification from Alberta Human Services.

The curriculum includes classroom spaces with interactive children’s learning centers that consist of a sensory-motor center, a reading center, an artist studio and a dramatic play center that supports the transition of theory to practice and gives the students an opportunity to engage with children in the lab space. The practicum focuses on a child- centered, play-based and emergent curriculum, involving the student in observing, documenting, and planning the curriculum to meet children’s individual needs, interests, and development.

The Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant diploma program prepares students to work in today's interdisciplinary health-care system. This program will provide students with a strong occupational and physical therapy assistant background and incorporate essential assistant-level skills in speech-language pathology and therapeutic recreation. Equipped with skills in these four rehabilitation disciplines, students will be prepared to meet industry demand and work in a specific rehabilitation discipline or in an interdisciplinary role.

The diploma teaches the students how to support and manage the cases of addiction in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. The course covers Aboriginal history, Aboriginal culture, and the needs of their communities and other populations and includes nineteen courses and two community practicums.

The program teaches the students the skills to create the latest mobile, gaming and computer applications and transform their ideas into reality. The students gain the practical experience while pursuing software development, an understanding of the industry standards of planning, developing, and quality assurance testing and learn the fundamentals of computer logic and emerging trends of user experience and the internet of things.

The program requires a laptop computer with the following specifications:

• Intel quad core CPU (i5 or i7)
• 8GB RAM (16GB recommended)
• 13 inch 1080p screen (15 inches recommended)
• a dedicated graphics card with 2GB of VRam
• 128GB solid state hard drive (256GB recommended)
• portable hard drive (for data backup)

The program teaches the students the skills required to make and design applications, websites, interactive multimedia products and e-publications and present, defend and critique digital media projects to meet the needs of the client and the project scope. The graduates of the program are capable of designing and producing flexible digital and print media like interactive/multimedia products, e-publications, websites and applications for public, non-profit, and corporate clients. 

The graduates of the course can find multiple jobs in the private and the public sector in non-profit agencies, government agencies, companies and corporations. The job roles include:

• Graphic designer
• Web designer and developer
• Graphic arts technician
• Front-end web developer
• Mobile designer

Through a variety of delivery options, you can earn a Bow Valley College/Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate. 

The Health Care Aide Certificate is available in three delivery options:

• Full-time, on-campus study over a eight-month period.
• Part-Time,online and on-campus over a five term period. 
• Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR): you may be eligible to challenge the courses in the Health Care Aide (HCA) program if you have work experience as a health care aide or caregiver and wish to meet provincial health care aide certification requirements. 

This program focuses on developing the core skills needed to care for individuals with various health care needs. Topics include personal care, assisting with mobility and nutrition, communication, assisting with medication delivery, and clinical skills. 

The graduates of this program will add to their existing knowledge and training by reading, planning and documenting the skills specific to the design of the kitchen and bath industry. The course teaches the students about the emerging trends and challenges for kitchen and bath designers, specializing to analyze and respond to clients' needs by creating functional and aesthetically pleasing design solutions, refining their knowledge of technical and presentation documents, considering environmental durability while working within the building codes and the design standards of the kitchen and the bath industry and increasing their understanding of residential construction practices and industry-specific materials and products.

This program combines the field of business, marketing, technology, and digital media communications and prepares learners to market an organization or product using the latest digital marketing tools and techniques. The program focuses on user experience design practice, marketing analytics, integrated media strategies, and web development techniques.

Co-operative Education Program (Optional)
Co-op provides eligible Business Administration Diploma students with an opportunity to gain work-related experience for one term through an assisted job search. Co-op offers students relevant experience to boost employment opportunities, develop professional skills and experience, network with employers, and earn money.  

The Co-op Work Term process aligns with the competitive nature of job search. To be accepted into the Co-op Program, applicants must meet all eligibility criteria and follow the application process. Candidates are responsible for demonstrating a high level of professional and program expectations. Not all students accepted into the Co-op Program are guaranteed a Co-op Work Term position. 

The focus of the Human Resource Major is on aligning the workforce with the strategic direction of the organization. The program includes an introduction to the function of human resources, an in-depth learning on recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, occupational health and safety, employment law, and labour relations.

Accredited by Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Alberta.
Graduates from this program are eligible to receive exemption for the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) as part of the process in receiving a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation. Graduates, who achieve an overall cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher, proceed directly to building the required work experience requirements before receiving their designation. The CPHR designation is highly regarded and provides you with a strong competitive advantage. 

Co-operative Education Program (Optional)
Co-op provides eligible Business Administration Diploma students with an opportunity to gain work-related experience for one term through an assisted job search. Co-op offers students relevant experience to boost employment opportunities, develop professional skills and experience, network with employers, and earn money.

The two-year diploma program focuses on teaching the students how to engage with people in order to assist them under various circumstances. Social Work Diploma teaches the students to work towards enhancing the well-being of individuals, families and communities and learn the skills for social work practice and develop a multicultural focus.
