Biophysics is the physics of life, of all living systems and their interaction with their surroundings, both natural and artificial. It is a rapidly advancing field, encompassing a wide variety of areas in natural and life sciences.

Biophysics uses all methods of scientific inquiry — theory, experiment and large-scale computer simulation — to understand living systems at the molecular level.

Biophysics also forms the basis of many aspects of medical physics, another rapidly developing field in much demand right now.

Brock’s Biophysics program will provide you with a superb learning environment and exciting research opportunities. Extended research opportunities are available through Brock’s participation in the Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (BIG), based at the University of Guelph.

The Honours Critical Criminology degree provides students the opportunity for an extensive examination of whose interests are served by ‘law and order’ ideologies, policies and practices of social control.

This degree offers a distinct orientation to law making, law breaking, law enforcement and social reaction. Students will look beyond crime and punishment and explore larger issues of surveillance, criminalization, interpersonal and structural violence, and more. The Honours BA in Critical Criminology will expose students to criminology in the broader context of theories of justice and equity — an important distinction both in the field and in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Students can expect to graduate equipped with advanced training in theory and methods, as well as applied and practical experience, in order to become leaders in areas such as law, policy, research and data analysis, and public accountability arenas.

We’ve teamed up with the School of Applied Computing and Engineering Sciences at Sheridan College to develop a program where you may complete your Brock degree and a three-year diploma in Telecommunications Technology from Sheridan College in just 4.5 years.

The program caters to the demand for professionals with a solid foundation in software development, as well as practical technical skills in system security, telecommunications, network analysis and administration.

You’ll spend three terms at Brock studying the foundations of computer science, followed by three terms at Sheridan College studying network communications in a hands-on environment. The final two terms alternate between Brock and Sheridan.

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers this interdisciplinary program as a combined major.

Courses are taught in English and cover the literatures and cultures of Western Europe, as well as Romance Linguistics. French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish texts are read in translation and assignments are completed in English.

At Brock, History is much more than memorizing facts and dates — it involves exploring changes and continuities in bygone societies, cultures and peoples.

The study of History entails following your interests and curiosities, evaluating and interpreting evidence, as well as formulating logical arguments based on that evidence.

The path to a successful career starts in one of Canada’s most diverse co-op programs. Co-op at Brock gives you the opportunity to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world situations. Our students test their skills daily, gaining experience and an edge in a global economy.

The History Co-op program gives students the opportunity to gain job experience in a diverse range of professional fields at the same time that they are working on a well-rounded education. The History Co-op program combines academic and work terms over a four year period. Students spend two years in an academic setting prior to taking the first work placement.

The Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film offers four separate programs of study in Business Communication, Media and Communication Studies, Film Studies, and Popular Culture. A four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours degree, a 4 Year BA with Major, and a three-year program leading to the BA Pass degree is offered in all four programs. In addition, the Department is involved in programs with community colleges which offer students the opportunity to earn an honours degree in Communication Studies and a college diploma or certificate.

The Media and Communication Studies program focuses on the impact of media and communication in the creation of meaning, identity and social change. The program emphasizes the study of media content, audiences and institutions in their political, economic and social contexts in Canada and elsewhere.

This exciting mathematics program is flexible, innovative and provides opportunities for students to work with leading researchers to gain academic and employment experience.

Choose from a broad range of courses or concentrations in pure mathematics (development of mathematical ideas and concepts for their own sake), applied mathematics (mathematics for applications in science, engineering, economics or business), statistics (experimental design, sampling methods and data analysis techniques), MICA (mathematics coupled with modern computer software applications) or mathematics education.

This program aims to equip students with a sound theoretical basis for analyzing and practicing communication within the business environment. You may study how digital technologies impact human communication in our concentration in Digital Culture. Pursue one of our collaborative programs to complete both a degree and a diploma.

Our program provides a unique foundation in business practices for computing professionals. The program begins with core courses in computer programming, basic data structures and computer organization, augmented by courses in accounting, management and economics.

In upper years, you’ll study databases, advanced data structures, operating systems, computing ethics, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing and organizational behaviour, and software engineering.
