This program is ideal for students who are interested in acquiring a well-rounded understanding of health and wellness at the individual and societal levels.

Students will learn the principles behind health promotion and disease prevention, as well as the major determinants of human health, including social, biological, and environmental.

For students with health-related college diplomas, this program provides an opportunity to update their knowledge or enhance their credentials. A set number of credits may be granted to allow for a more expedient completion of the program.

The Department of Music offers superb performance and academic instruction, pristine facilities in the Walker School and a professional auditorium in the 300-seat recital hall at the adjacent FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.

There are a wide range of courses in music history, theory, general musicianship, solo and ensemble performance, composition, conducting, music technology and music education.

The concentration in Music Education is the perfect lead into further studies in a Faculty of Education, school teaching, or for teaching privately in a studio setting.

The Music Therapy Foundations concentration is a kind of Music Therapy “pre-med,” and is excellent preparation for graduate studies and eventual certification in Music Therapy.

The Music Performance concentration (BMus only) is for performers of the highest calibre who aspire to go on to graduate studies in performance and an eventual career concertizing. Entry to this concentration is via a juried audition at the end of first year.

Are you interested in how children acquire language, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, how various language disorders can be diagnosed and treated, or how social or cultural environments interact with language?

In our program, you’ll gain a strong foundation in linguistics, hands-on fieldwork, clinical observation, teaching practice and practical workshops to supplement your academic courses. We offer a choice of two majors:

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL): With this certificate or major, learn how second language learning is different from first language learning, and prepare to teach ESL in different contexts. Learn about advanced theory and practice of second language learning and teaching, and complete a major research paper in our MA Applied Linguistics/TESL program.

Speech-Language & Hearing Sciences: Learn about basic science and communication processes, including the anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing, acoustics, linguistics, child language development and selected disorders of human communication. Concentrate in Hearing Sciences and learn about sound, hearing, and hearing disorders, and prepare for admission to graduate audiology programs. Concentrate in Speech-Language Sciences and learn about speech, language, and speech and language disorders, and prepare for admission to speech-language pathology graduate programs.

You’ll be on the forefront of research in this exciting and knowledge-based industry. You’ll take courses in biological sciences, chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology, exploring the use of living organisms to produce goods and services for practical and industrial purposes.

Career opportunities in biotechnology are expanding rapidly due to a dramatic increase in global market demands for biotechnology products.

As a modern biotechnologist, you’ll study areas such as recombinant DNA technology, genetic and protein engineering, cell fusion, and gene cloning and expression.

Canadian Studies is offered as a combined major. As a Canadian Studies co-major, you’ll confront the intersection of Canada’s rich history with culture, cultural policy, politics, economics and geography.

Our courses explore Canada from many angles. We take advantage of our geographic position to explore the impact of the border on culture and trade in Canada.

Canadian Studies students are in demand at home and abroad. Here in Canada, your skills are urgently needed to communicate with international businesses, politicians, tourists, and more. Your knowledge is sought after in the fields of education, law and the civil service.

We’ll provide you with a comprehensive education encompassing sensory science, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, plant physiology and cell biology.

Your education will be enhanced by an opportunity to apply what you learn in the lecture hall with hands-on winemaking labs and viticulture field-work. Extracurricular lectures and events organized by Brock’s internationally renowned Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (brocku.ca/ccovi) connect you with leading researchers in the field.

Create a custom program for yourself. This program has been designed for individuals wishing to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue further undergraduate and graduate studies, or careers in the sciences in a personalized and flexible way.
You may complete your degree within the program or use it as a foundation to join another program of your choice in the health, life or natural sciences.
It is ideally suited to students who are looking for plenty of choice as they develop their study plan. It could include the specific combination of courses required for admission into graduate or professional studies or simply courses that best serve your personal goals and aspirations.

The program centers on the biophysical establishment of human wellbeing, with courses in life structures, physiology, science, and science, notwithstanding the social parts of wellbeing. It incorporates propelled courses with research center segments in clinical the study of disease transmission, human immunology, restorative microbiology, parasitology, pharmacology, cardiology, and pathology. 

Abundant open doors for experiential learning exist inside the program at spots, for example, the Brock-Niagara Center for Health and Well-Being.

This program has been produced for the individuals who need to proceed with concentrates in medication, dentistry, restoration or word related treatment, among others. Relevant Careers which can be pursued by the applicant are physician, Dentist, Optometrist, Pharmacist, health researcher.

Environmental geoscientists apply their unique understanding of the Earth’s composition, structure and physical processes to protect the environment and predict geologic and hydrologic hazards.

New geoscientists, trained in environmental disciplines, are required to meet environmental and resource management challenges. Current trends suggest that in North America, employment in the environmental geoscience disciplines will grow faster than the average for other occupations.

Brock’s program is designed to comply with the educational requirements for licensing as a geoscientist-in-training, the licensing classification that leads to the PGeo designation, established by the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

The Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film offers four separate programs of study in Business Communication, Media and Communication Studies, Film Studies, and Popular Culture. A four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours degree, a 4 Year BA with Major, and a three-year program leading to the BA Pass degree is offered in all four programs. Majors in the Department may complete a Concentration in Digital Culture. Minor programs are available in Digital Culture, Film Studies, Media Studies and Popular Culture for majors in other Departments/Centres as well as a Certificate in Film Studies. In addition, the Department is involved in programs with community colleges which offer students the opportunity to earn a BA Honours Communication Studies, BA Honours Popular Culture or a BA with Major Film Studies degree and a college diploma or certificate.

Communication Studies
Business Communication
Students in Business Communication must attain a minimum 65 percent major average to continue in the program. Business Communication is an interdisciplinary program combining the study of communication with a study of some aspects of business. The program aims to equip the student with a sound theoretical basis for analysing and practicing communication within the business environment.

Media and Communication Studies
Media and Communication Studies is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the impact of media and communication in the creation of meaning, identity and social change, emphasizing the study of media content, audiences and institutions in their political, economic, and social contexts in Canada and elsewhere.

Film Studies
Film Studies is a sequence of critical and historical courses that examine a variety of approaches to film. The courses explore the nature of film language and develop an analytical perspective on film as both an art and a medium. Other courses explore issues and theories in popular culture. Students may have opportunities to engage in media production in selected upper year courses.
