Are you interested in how children acquire language, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, how various language disorders can be diagnosed and treated, or how social or cultural environments interact with language?

Speech Language & Hearing Sciences: Learn about basic science and communication processes, including the anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing, acoustics, linguistics, child language development and selected disorders of human communication. Concentrate in Hearing Sciences and learn about sound, hearing, and hearing disorders, and prepare for admission to graduate audiology programs. Concentrate in Speech-Language Sciences and learn about speech, language, and speech and language disorders, and prepare for admission to speech-language pathology graduate programs.

The Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film offers four separate programs of study in Business Communication, Media and Communication Studies, Film Studies, and Popular Culture. A four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours degree, a 4 Year BA with Major, and a three-year program leading to the BA Pass degree is offered in all four programs. In addition, the Department is involved in programs with community colleges which offer students the opportunity to earn an honours degree in Communication Studies and a college diploma or certificate.

Our programs combine academic study with unique practical experience in critical thinking and writing. Courses explore literature from Britain, the United States and Canada, as well as works written in English from all over the world.

The Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse Studies program combines practical and theoretical studies with instruction in a range of writing genres for students interested in communications, public relations, journalism and professional writing for organizations.

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement. You will study the anatomy and physiology of body movement, including issues related to the maintenance, rehabilitation or enhancement of movement and performance.

Our Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) degree emphasizes the biophysical, behavioural and socio-cultural aspects of kinesiology, including exercise prescription and rehabilitation, fitness programming and clinical assessment. This degree trains effective health professionals who will transfer scientific theory into practice.

The Tecumseh Center for Aboriginal Research and Education offers a few alternatives for those keen on working in an indigenous teaching condition. 

The people group put together educational program model depends with respect to qualified Aboriginal teachers to encourage the instructive adventure. Courses are offered in an encouraged learning associate model in areas over the territory. A determination of Indigenous Studies courses are offered in the campus such as:

Learn and think about children, childhood and youth through diverse lenses. Our unique program draws on psychology, education, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, and criminology — among other disciplines — to really understand young people and their perspectives.

This theoretical and practical training offers an approach to understanding children, childhood and youth that includes: diversity, inequality, exceptionalities, families, cultures, social worlds, schools, peers, communities, popular and media culture, and international issues that span the globe. This wide-ranging knowledge base opens up doors to working with young people in a variety of capacities.

The department has been offering undergraduate degrees since 1993, an MA program since 2000 and a PhD program since 2016.

Career opportunities in biotechnology are expanding rapidly due to a dramatic increase in global market demands for biotechnology products.

As a modern biotechnologist, you’ll study areas such as recombinant DNA technology, genetic and protein engineering, cell fusion, and gene cloning and expression.

We’ll provide you with a comprehensive education encompassing sensory science, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, plant physiology and cell biology.

Your education will be enhanced by an opportunity to apply what you learn in the lecture hall with hands-on winemaking labs and viticulture field-work. Extracurricular lectures and events organized by Brock’s internationally renowned Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (brocku.ca/ccovi) connect you with leading researchers in the field. Industry experience via our co-op program (brocku.ca/co-op) will also be an essential part of your education. At least one work term will be in a vineyard setting with another at a winery during harvest time. CCOVI is the only institute of its kind in Canada.

History is at the heart of every educated citizen. To understand the present and prepare for the future, one must learn about the past.

At Brock, History is much more than memorizing facts and dates — it involves exploring changes and continuities in bygone societies, cultures and peoples.

The study of History entails following your interests and curiosities, evaluating and interpreting evidence, as well as formulating logical arguments based on that evidence.

This exciting program will allow you to combine your interests in mathematics and computer science and provide you with a unique work experience. The 4.5-year program combines the strengths of our Computer Science program with our Mathematics program, showing you how to apply what you learn in Mathematics by using technology.
