Over three semesters of study, the program will maximize your career opportunities by preparing you to successfully challenge all TSSA Operating Engineering exams up to - and including - the 2nd Class level of qualification.  The program will prepare you for supervisory and management roles in power plants and other industrial settings.

You'll gain knowledge and skills in all aspects of power plant operation and maintenance, both theoretical and practical, at the 4th Class level in first year, the 3rd Class level in second year, and the 2nd Class level in your final year.

Theoretical concepts introduced in class are further explained and illustrated in the College's Power Plant Training Facility – a registered 2nd Class plant where you will operate and maintain working equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Depending on how the student wishes to proceed with their studies; the third year is available as a combination of online or classroom environments. This delivery alternative gives students the flexibility to learn from the convenience of their home communities. However, it is important to note that the qualifying time reduction will not be available to students who choose the online only version of the third year.

Subjects of instruction closely follow the Standardized Power Engineers Examination Committee (SOPEEC) syllabus and will help prepare you to challenge the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) examinations required for certification as a 2nd Class Operating Engineer.

This program has been officially recognized and approved by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority. This will grant a qualifying time reduction to you upon successful completion of the program; but only to students who pursue the full-time, day program method of instruction.

Program Highlights

• 3 years – 7 semesters
• Final year consists of three semesters arranged fall/winter/fall.  Entry to the PWTY program is possible at the beginning of each of the three semesters.
• Theory subjects are offered online to students who are interested in obtaining the utmost of flexibility with their studies.
• Full-time, day program endorsed by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). 
• Hands-on training in Cambrian's 2nd Class power plant
• Advanced level courses involving management of power plants, technical reports, and aspects which comply and exceed the Standardized Power Engineers Examination Committee (SOPEEC) 2nd Class syllabus
• Students  are eligible to challenge the TSSA examinations for 2nd Class certification as an Operating Engineer

Fieldwork/Placement
In addition to the qualifying time granted by TSSA upon successful completion of the program, you are required to complete two work placements in order to obtain the qualifying time necessary to obtain 4th and 3rd Class Operating Engineering certification.  After the first year, you must complete an approved three month placement toward your 4th Class certification, and after the second year, an approved one month placement toward your 3rd class certification.

Are you ready to be a change maker in our community and justice communities?  Then the Community and Justice Services Program is for you.  This program blends corrections theory with  practical experiences building your skills and confidence to work with hard-to-serve populations, people at risk for being in conflict with the law, offenders in the community, and those incarcerated in our institutions.

From day one, in semester one, we will immerse you in the field.  Your academic journey begins at Wendigo Lake Expeditions - an open custody facility for youth. Here you'll participate in adventure based therapy styled training and activities designed to develop your team-building, facilitation, collaboration, communication and leadership skills. Every semester we bring you to the field or the field experts to you. 

Our concentrated focus on practical application includes simulations and scenario testing to grow your knowledge and skills in:

• Therapeutic intervention and security
• Communication and rapport building
• De-escalation and conflict resolution
• Program development and facilitation
• Report writing and case management  

Your college experience is capped off with a 10-week, 350-hour field placement follow by specialized professional development training in self-defense, suicide intervention, and interprofessional collaborative practices.

As a student in Early Childhood Education at Cambrian College, you will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for the field of early learning and child care. Your studies will blend the theory of child growth and development with practical application experiences in the field.  Through Interactive classroom experiences you will design, plan, implement, and evaluate play-based learning for young children from birth to twelve years of age.

The program will prepare you to work with and support the diverse needs of the children and families you will encounter in your future work. You will build a foundation of understanding that children learn through play. This learning approach combined with a culturally-relevant environment will reflect that children are curious, capable, competent, and rich in potential.

Imagine a career working in a laboratory environment extracting valuable metals from raw materials, working on environmental sustainability, developing new and improved fuels, or developing the next generation of medications. Chemical engineering is a broad field that delves into all of these areas and more.

Cambrian's Chemical Engineering Technology program is the only one of its kind in Ontario and is designed to develop the skill sets you will need to work in any of these exciting fields. It couples fundamental theory with the necessary hands-on, practical laboratory training required for employment in various chemical industries and environmental sectors. You will work independently and in groups to build the self-directed study and team work skills you will need within various workplace settings.

Fieldwork/Placement
You are required to complete two co-operative work terms upon meeting the course pre-requisites. You may complete the two work placements during any of the non-academic semesters prior to graduation. These work terms provide you with the opportunity to apply classroom studies to an actual work situation.

People are living longer than ever before and are increasingly concerned about maintaining their health and physical fitness. Considering Canada's aging demographic and increases in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in the general population, many medical and allied health practitioners are promoting the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle. 

This program will provide you with a blend of fitness education and health promotion principles in order to meet the growing demand for health professionals that are qualified to deliver programs that emphasize active living. The program will help you develop the skills and knowledge to change and inspire the lives of others through courses that focus on health promotion, individual and group exercise programming, nutrition, fitness assessment, and recreation management. 

Students will have the opportunity to obtain certifications in the field of health and fitness:

• Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) designation,
• Fitness certifications with the Ontario Fitness Council,
• Specialty certifications with Sport for Life, High Five, and the National Coaching Certification Program. 

This program is the only Fitness and Health Promotion program in Ontario with an outdoor recreation course. Enjoy being active in the outdoors and what northern Ontario has to offer through camping trips and more!
Our indoor facilities include fully-equipped weight rooms, a cardio room, a multi-purpose room, squash courts, double gymnasium, and a stretching area. You will also have exclusive access to a state-of-the-art multi-purpose/functional fitness and assessment laboratory to enhance your exercise science knowledge on new and traditional equipment. Outdoor facilities include running track, soccer/football field, baseball diamond, and beach volleyball courts.

This intensive program will enable you to become a highly-skilled software developer capable of transforming ideas into effective Android, iOS, and Web-based software solutions. You will become a robust and valuable professional who is confident in developing software for Android, iOS, and Web. Additionally, you will be skilled at developing highly capable, database-driven websites, portals, and mobile applications using the latest cloud technologies.

Fieldwork/Placement: Semester three will be a seven-week, unpaid work placement to give you practical experience.

If you're interested in pursuing a career in global business management or upgrading your current skills, this one-year post-diploma graduate certificate program will enable you to gain specialized global business knowledge & skills required to effectively manage the aspects of global business activities for an organization.

Students will be taught courses in global financial management, global marketing management, global legal issues, global market research, developing a global business plan, global supply chain management, in addition to courses in managing across cultures and professional development to further prepare you for the global workforce.

Students will conclude the program by further gaining hands-on experience by participating in a work placement, a capstone project with an industry partner, or through an international immersion opportunity.

Upon graduation, you may complete further courses to pursue additional certification towards a Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) designation as a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP).

Fieldwork/Placement
The final semester consists of a choice of:

• An 8-week unpaid work placement;
• A capstone Project; or 
• An international immersion opportunity

Gain the in-depth networking and infrastructure skills to configure the information technology environment in all sizes and types of organizations. You will learn how to install, manage, and troubleshoot networks and internetworks; and local and remote servers.

In Cambrian’s advanced diploma program, you’ll benefit from hands-on training in the latest industry software, a placement opportunity,  and multiple pathways to degree programs.

The Business Administration – Accounting program blends traditional lectures with interactive student discussions, formal presentations, individual work, and practical case studies that model the real business world. The program balances an intense focus on accounting with a broad education in other areas of business by combining courses in financial accounting, managerial skills, finance, cost accounting systems, auditing, computerized accounting, and personal and corporate income taxation. A placement in semester six provides additional hands-on experience and opportunities for networking.

Fieldwork/Placement
All Business Administration-Accounting students participate in an unpaid, practical experience in the sixth semester. The placement is arranged by the coordinator of field placement, and students are formally evaluated by their employers. This exposure to the working world enables students to put into practice their recently obtained skills and knowledge.

Gain the technical skills and practical field experience to identify, measure, and record environmental variables within the air, water, soil and living organisms. This program prepares you to perform appropriate sampling, use state-of-the-art equipment, and assist in the remediation and long-term evaluation and monitoring of contaminated ecosystem components. You will also be prepared to work on a variety of projects related to climate change issues, water conservation, and water management and other sustainability concerns. Throughout the program, you will also build your knowledge of pertinent environmental regulations and policies.
