An aging population, shorter hospital stays, and a shortage of trained PSWs makes this an in-demand healthcare job. Cambrian’s tailored personal support worker courses will prepare you to work as a PSW in just 26 weeks.(in just two semesters). In the first semester you will learn the skills that PSWs use to care for others, in our labs and in the classroom. The second semester is a preceptorship. You will work in a healthcare setting with an experienced PSW and a faculty member, who will help you to become a confident, caring, and job ready PSW.

Upon completion of the program, you will be prepared to assist clients with activities of daily living and contribute to the quality of life of individuals who live in a facility or community setting by promoting their independence, dignity, social, emotional and physical well-being.

As a navigator, you'll help people make sense of complex systems that can be confusing and frustrating. You’ll work from a person-centred and strength-based lens to help people navigate health care, mental health, addictions, social welfare, law and justice, developmental and educational settings.

Fieldwork/Placement

As an authorized Cisco Systems Networking Academy and Microsoft IT Academy, Cambrian equips you with all the in-depth technical and customer service skills needed to manage and solve the networking, security, wireless access, and VoIP needs of support teams within organizations of all sizes.

Plus, you'll configure desktop and network operating systems, study programming languages, configure and manage both local and wide area networks, and learn network security from industry experts.

Fieldwork/Placement
A six-week placement in the sixth semester is part of the program of study.

Prepare for safety and security roles in a variety of industries such as mining, education, casino, energy, retail, medical, residential, and entertainment. As a graduate, you'll have the ability to immediately begin working in the field.

You will learn to communicate effectively with all types of people in both peaceful and conflict situations, as well as how to conduct effective patrols, manage movement of people and vehicles, utilize electronic security equipment, and manage access control. You will also learn to become an experienced note taker and to conduct investigations, collect evidence when appropriate, make arrests when necessary, write informative reports regarding your actions, and provide evidence as expected.

You will be exposed to supervisory expectations, budgeting, health and safety, unions, and media interaction. Managing risk and responding in emergencies will round out your educational experience.

As a Developmental Services Professional, students are embarking on a rewarding career supporting children and adults experiencing life with physical disabilities, developmental and intellectual disabilities and dual diagnosis. Students will learn how to effectively use a person centered approach and positive behaviour supports to support behavioural, emotional, mental, physical and social needs. Students will also learn about the stages of human development, spectrum of disabilities, modes of communication, basic nursing and medication administration competencies and the range of community supports.

In addition, students will learn the value of working within legislative frameworks as it relates to positive behaviour supports, person centered supports, educational supports, crisis management and the constructing of a safe, respectful and quality life. Students will develop advocacy skills through relationship building and the critical thinking skills required to support individuals who live life with physical disabilities, developmental and intellectual disabilities and dual diagnosis.

Learning will be complemented by extensive hands-on experience gained through Field Placement opportunities, beginning with a Field Placement block in semester two and continuing with placements in semesters three and four.

Students will acquire the following skills from this program:

• Communication skills using alternate modes of communication: sign language, braille and a picture exchange communication system
• Professional competencies and the development of core and threshold competencies
• Development of formal and informal person and student centered plans
• Development of positive behaviour supports and instructional strategies
• Understanding and supporting individuals across the diverse spectrum of disabilities
• Advocacy for independence, self-determination, inclusion, belonging and citizenship
• Development of competencies to work collaboratively with inter-professional teams, families and community professionals
• Knowledge of medications, medication administration and basic nursing skills
• Facilitation of employment opportunities and entrepreneurship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in global business management or upgrading your current skills, this one-year post-diploma graduate certificate program will enable you to gain specialized global business knowledge & skills required to effectively manage the aspects of global business activities for an organization.

Students will be taught courses in global financial management, global marketing management, global legal issues, global market research, developing a global business plan, global supply chain management, in addition to courses in managing across cultures and professional development to further prepare you for the global workforce.

Students will conclude the program by further gaining hands-on experience by participating in a work placement, a capstone project with an industry partner, or through an international immersion opportunity.

Upon graduation, you may complete further courses to pursue additional certification towards a Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) designation as a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP).

Cambrian's accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography – Ultrasound program will prepare you for entry-level roles in hospitals, medical clinics, and private industry. You will learn to safely use scanning equipment and imaging techniques to produce images of a body part or system, skills that can be required throughout the different departments of a clinical facility including the trauma unit, operating room, and intensive care area, as well as the diagnostic imaging department.

To graduate from this program, you must demonstrate scanning abilities at a level of competency defined by Sonography Canada and within the timelines set out in the curriculum. Also, you will be expected to rotate to one or more sites during your placement component.

There isn’t a better time to maximize your leadership potential than by expanding your management skills through this one-year program which is intended to provide career advancement into management roles. This is also in response to succession planning, a challenge that most organizations are facing these days as a quarter of the workforce, including managers, are planning retirement within the next five years.

In the program, you will take a series of carefully selected business courses that will build and enhance your skills in critical areas of management such as in accounting for non-financial managers; financial decision making; managerial economics; business ethics and corporate, social, responsibility; organizational behaviour and human resources management; managerial communications; marketing strategy; data analysis using Excel; business strategy; new venture creation; negotiation and leadership; and legal aspects of business.

From day one, in semester one, we will immerse you in the field.  Your academic journey begins at Wendigo Lake Expeditions - an open custody facility for youth. Here you'll participate in adventure based therapy styled training and activities designed to develop your team-building, facilitation, collaboration, communication and leadership skills. Every semester we bring you to the field or the field experts to you. 

Our concentrated focus on practical application includes simulations and scenario testing to grow your knowledge and skills in:

• Therapeutic intervention and security
• Communication and rapport building
• De-escalation and conflict resolution
• Program development and facilitation
• Report writing and case management  

Your college experience is capped off with a 10-week, 350-hour field placement follow by specialized professional development training in self-defense, suicide intervention, and interprofessional collaborative practices.
