Sprott’s Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) is a four-year business degree that delivers a complete business education with options to tailor your program to your individual interests and goals, including co-op.

Management - Concentration
Develop employer-valued skills and experience in managing and understanding people and their work relationships at individual, group and organizational levels. Prepare for careers in general management, management consulting, training and development, employee relations and strategic human resources.

The Earth Sciences program at Carleton offers you the opportunity to study the Earth’s systems, incorporating knowledge from other sciences including physics, biology and chemistry. You will learn about processes (such as evolution, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, plate tectonics and mountain building, formation of hydrocarbon reservoirs and mineral deposits) influential in the Earth’s geologic past that establish our present and future global development. The program offers the opportunity to participate in hands-on field courses that can take you to sites throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.

Where better to study politics than the nation’s capital? Our location in Ottawa provides you with numerous chances to see politics not only nationally but internationally. You will examine such topics of study as international relations, transitions to democracy, parties and elections, globalization and social movements, and the culture and ideas of politics.

International or local exchanges are an exciting possibility during your third year, and you may also choose to undertake an internship of your choosing, with permission of the undergraduate supervisor. In fourth year, an internship with the Washington Center is an option for consideration.

Greek and Roman Studies (Classics) give a brilliant chance to find out about the antiquated foundations of human advancement and to watch the effect that the old world had on later periods. The Bachelor of International Business (Honours) is a four-year degree program that gives students the foundation and global perspective they need to make a difference in the world. Intensive language training and intercultural skills gained through firsthand international experience prepares students for careers around the world.

International Strategy and Human Resources Management
In this concentration you will develop the skills required to design and execute international business strategies by linking a firm’s global environment with its internal operations and structure. Special attention is placed on the role of human resources in framing and implementing comprehensive strategies through hiring, training and evaluating personnel. Understanding the challenges of managing a culturally diverse workforce under contrasting conditions is a key factor for success in this field.

As key players in the workings of every democracy, journalists should be well educated, thoughtful, analytical, conscious of the responsibility that comes with their job, and equipped with a moral compass to guide their decisions.

Do you have a desire to learn more about the history of Music from Medieval music to modern day Pop? Then the Bachelor of Arts in Music is for you. This program will allow you to study a wide range of topics from the history of Western art music (Medieval, Renaissance, Classical, Romantic, etc.) to Canadian and Indigenous Music and Culture, to Jazz, Pop and Rock, to Music of the World’s Peoples.

The degree consists of an intensive study of non-performance based courses in music and culture: from the historical past to the present-day music industry, from musicology to ethnomusicology. It allows a wide choice of options in subjects and will leave you with a solid understanding of Music and how it has impacted our everyday lives.

Note that the BA in Music is not a performance degree and does not require an audition. Individual instruction in performance is not part of this program. Theory and ear training are not requirements of the program nor is recital or ensemble work

In additional to the BA in Music, this major is offered as an Honours, and Combined Honours program. A Bachelor of Music and a minor in Music are also available. Only the Bachelor of Music (Honours) is performance based and requires an audition.

Computers and computer systems play a central role in business, communication, science, entertainment and medicine. As the range of computer applications continues to expand, so does the demand for computer scientists. Computer Science is an ever-changing discipline that studies the theory, design and implementation of computer applications and systems. You will learn to use computing and information technology to help solve the problems that we face in business, science and society today and those that we will face tomorrow.

The Bachelor of Architectural Studies (Urbanism) program explores architecture as a component of the larger built environment. The curriculum is designed to promote stewardship of communities by examining the forms they take, the forces that produce them, and the ways they affect us. Courses explore the impact of demographic, ecological, economic and social changes on the urban core and the expanding periphery. Students analyze patterns of human settlement over time in relation to culture, climate, technology, political systems, infrastructure, economic forces and global ecology. 

Drawing and computer modeling courses in the lower years prepare students to explore urban design in upper-level studios. In addition to designing individual buildings and spaces, Urbanism majors explore architecture and urban space at the scale of the block, neighborhood, city and region.  Projects challenge students to consider the architect’s role in accommodating diversity, contributing to the quality of life, and promoting the health of society and the natural environment.

In addition to courses common to all BAS majors, Urbanism students take specialized courses  including several in Geography, History, and Canadian Studies. Upper-level studios include a Directed Studies Abroad (DSA) option. As with all BAS majors, Urbanism students may opt to participate in the Co-Op program. The Urbanism program prepares graduates for advanced studies and careers in Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and other disciplines
