Network Technology
The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) offers four distinct programs: Information Resource Management (IRM), Interactive Multimedia and Design (IMD), Network Technology (NET) and Optical Systems and Sensors (OSS). These programs are offered jointly by Carleton’s School of Information Technology and Algonquin College’s schools of Health and Community Studies (for IRM), Media and Design (for IMD), and Advanced Technology (for NET and OSS). You will graduate with a Bachelor of Information Technology degree from Carleton University and one of: a Library and Information Technician diploma (for IRM students), an Advanced Diploma of Applied Arts (for IMD students), an Advanced Diploma in Technology (for NET students) or an Advanced Diploma in Photonics and Laser Technology (for OSS students) from Algonquin College.

The four-year NET program focuses on the design, management, operation and installation of future complex information networks such as those that make up the Internet and cell phone networks. The program is multidisciplinary in nature, combining courses in computer and network technology with courses in physics, mathematics, business, communications, arts and social sciences. In this program, you will not only explore theories and concepts but also learn about their practical application. You will learn to design, manage, secure, operate, install and configure advanced IT networks. State-of-the-art networking labs offer hands-on training with real-world equipment. The NET program has a partnership with the Cisco Networking Academy, whereby students are trained to successfully write the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Professional (CCNP) certification exams to earn industry-recognized certification, which is in high demand in the job market.

Psychologists study the mechanisms that underlie our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. They examine a diverse range of topics, such as how we think and learn, how we interact with others and how we can promote healthy development and wellness. This is accomplished by conducting research so that the knowledge gained can help us to better understand the human mind, enhance well-being and performance, and generate additional research questions.

Entrepreneurship - Concentration
Learn about the entrepreneurial process and experience the steps in starting a business—from idea inception to implementation in the marketplace. BCom students take courses with non-business students in the Minor in Entrepreneurship, creating a collaborative and interdisciplinary classroom environment. Carleton offers support and funding opportunities for student entrepreneurs.

Computer Mathematics provides you with a background in computer-related mathematical ideas, plus a strong foundation in computer science. If you want to pursue a career in government, industry, management, or systems analysis, this may be the program for you.

Carleton’s Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies offers a program that engages students in critically understanding the key issues of feminist scholarship and their relationship to our lived experience. Students have the opportunity to engage in activist activities, study gender in courses across disciplines, and do a practicum placement with feminist groups from inside and outside the Carleton community. Central to our program is the consideration of how gender intersects with race, class, ethnicity, age, ability and sexuality. Students explore the practices and processes that impact on women’s and men’s lives in historical, socio-economic, cultural and political contexts.

Understanding the challenges of managing a culturally diverse workforce under contrasting conditions is a key factor for success in this field.

Online technologies are evolving quickly, revolutionizing the way we communicate with each other, disseminate information, and tell stories. Carleton’s Bachelor of Media Production and Design degree will give you the skills you need to leverage web technologies to produce highly visual, compelling, and immersive user experiences that bring data and stories to life. In this exciting and unique program, you will learn the theory and practice of taking an entire project to fruition – from idea or concept through to design, production, and distribution – by integrating your non-fiction storytelling, analytical and design abilities with your technical prowess.

Receive the latest training in business and the application of computers within large business organizations. You will learn how to manage IT projects and companies by taking courses offered by both Carleton’s School of Computer Science and the Sprott School of Business.

Engineering Physics is a challenging and elite program for those students who want to combine the strengths of physics and engineering. You will obtain an unusually broad and strong foundation in material science, applied physics, electronics and nanotechnology, and learn to apply it in the development of new technologies which include, but are not limited to, nanotechnology, semiconductor devices, optical systems, telecommunications and related computer hardware. In your senior year, you may specialize in many other areas of interest.
